The boys' bathrooms at the Mahanoy Area High School in Pennsylvania have been destroyed too many times to count. So these days every teenage boy who wants to go to the bathroom at Mahanoy has to go to the main office and sign a roll of toilet paper out. Then they have to walk back to the bathroom, that roll of TP in their arms, for the entire world to see. Any guesses what has parents upset here? Maybe, oh, I dunno, the fact that their kids' school is practically doing the job for the bullies, making their kids easy targets?

There's some sad news out of San Diego. A mother has been sentenced to 15 years for drowning her autistic son in the family bathtub. Patricia Corby said she was planning to commit suicide after killing 4-year-old son Daniel. Instead she drove to a police station and turned herself in for what prosecutors would eventually term second-degree murder. Now she's headed for prison and no one, not even Corby's own family, seems to want to have anything to do with her. The boy's father told her he hates her with all his "heart and soul." An aunt called Corby "evil."

It came out of nowhere. A backhanded compliment like none other. "When I grow up," my daughter told me, "I want to be just like my Mommy. Except the hair. And the clothes. I want fashionable clothes." Hi! My name is Jeanne Sager, and even my 7-year-old is embarrassed by my horrendous style.

6 Reasons I'm Glad I'll Never Have a Son

When I was pregnant, I didn't know if I'd be giving birth to a daughter or a son. My husband and I just assumed we'd be happy with whomever we got. And then my little girl arrived in the delivery room, and all of a sudden our family was complete. We fell head over heels for this whole having a daughter thing, and we couldn't imagine having a son. Fast forward seven years, and up pops an article by a dad who is over the moon that he has never had a daughter. The way he sees it, having male spawn is pretty much the bee's knees. And to that, I've just gotta say it: thank goodness I never had a son!

Long before the cops from Newtown, Connecticut decided to speak with The New York Times about the horrors they discovered inside the Sandy Hook Elementary School, they were heroes. These were the men who ran toward gunfire to rescue children from a madman. And today we are learning just what it was they ran into. Of the seven police officers who opened up to the Times were several who had never before spoken to the press. Their stories are hard to read, but even harder to turn away from because they represent all at once true horror and true heroism in America.

Settled on a vaccine schedule for your baby yet? Hold that thought. The American Academy of Pediatrics has come out with a new schedule that's supposed to be easier for us parents to read and follow.  The number of parents choosing to vaccinate on their own schedule has been increasing in recent years. As much as half the babies in a recent study were on a delayed schedule! It's awfully temping to come up with your own plan. But who are you going to listen to? Other moms or the AAP? Here are the highlights of the new schedule to help you decide:

Get ready for your "people be crazy" story of the day. A 7-year-old was handcuffed by police and charged with robbery over allegedly taking $5 from a classmate after school. Not crazy enough for you? Wilson Reyes was allegedly interrogated for 10 hours over the missing money before he was finally allowed to see his Mommy! Yeah, that's the part that really got to me too. I have a 7-year-old, and there's no way on God's green earth that I'd allow cops to sit her down and have a chat without me present.

In the weeks since the Newtown tragedy, it's seemed like everyone and their grandmother have had something to say about guns in America. But today it was Gabrielle Giffords who took her turn. The former Congresswoman shot in the head by a deranged gunman during a mass shooting in Arizona spoke from the heart in front of her former colleagues during the first congressional committee hearing on guns of 2013.  This morning Gabrielle Giffords tried to turn the debate about guns and rights on its head. You see, for women like Gabrielle Giffords, whose speech still bears evidence of what gun violence did to her brain, this is not about the right to bear arms at all.

A week ago 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton was performing in a celebration that will go down in the history books: President Barack Obama's second inauguration. Today the teen is dead. She was shot in the back of the head in a Chicago neighborhood. It's another sad story of gun violence in America. And it's another reminder of how unsafe we really are. After all, Hadiya was in a park, in a so-called safe neighborhood.

How worried are you about your kids and drugs? Worried enough, say, to enroll your kid in a school where they collect samples of students' hair and send them off for drug tests? That's the new program at a Kansas City private school, and yes, it's mandatory. If your kid is enrolled, your kid is subject to the kind of random drug testing that's nearly impossible to fool. Way to teach the kids that nobody trusts them, huh?

When I was pregnant, I used to watch the babywearing moms with awe. These ladies knew how to actually get things done and be good parents all at the same time! The only problem? I went to get a baby carrier, and I was totally lost. Did I want to do a kangaroo carry or a Buddha carry (hint: they're the same thing)? Is my baby going to be lost if I don't have a ring sling? And what the heck is a mei tai?

The mother who sold her 6-year-old daughter to pedophile drug dealers to get money for drugs won't be doing that again any time soon. Dalina Nicholas has pleaded guilty and she's facing 15 to 30 years in a Florida prison. And it's all thanks to someone rather unexpected. The man who rescued Nicholas' daughter from a life of horrible abuse at the hands of her own mother was a complete stranger to her. In fact, he was a man society has more or less forgotten.

As if putting their childhoods on a reality show for the entire world to see wasn't enough of a reason for Kris Jenner's teenage daughters to need some hardcore therapy when they grow up, there's another bombshell in the Kardashian world. Rumor has it Kylie Jenner may not dad Bruce's biological daughter. What? First Khloe may not really be a Kardashian, and now Kylie may not really be a Jenner? What is up with this family?

Remember when Glee was shocking parents with their threats to show two gay teenagers kissing? Or talking about teenagers losing their virginity? Ah, those were the old days when life was simple and pure. Now it's 2013 and Rachel Berry is threatening to expose her bare breasts to the world. What a long way we've come from bobby socks and plaid skirts. We had to face the idea of Rachel Berry going topless. Did anyone really want to see that? Besides Brody, that is?

Moms, I'm going to take the risk of sounding like a broken record, and lay some hard-earned mom knowledge on you. Kids really do grow up faster than you expect (or want!). I swear it was yesterday when I brought my daughter home from the hospital. But today she's in second grade, and all those baby milestones that I awaited so anxiously when I was a new mom are just distant memories. Don't let this happen to you! All those firsts are amazing, and you owe it to yourself to celebrate them fully. Don't want to end up with a second grader tomorrow? It's time to throw yourself into really enjoying all these baby firsts.

Well, now we know more than we ever wanted to about Snooki's son's penis. In a word, baby Lorenzo's man parts are "awesome." According to his mom, anyway. Oh Snooki, you know you're not supposed to talk about your son's circumcision, right? Hold up! Yes, we moms can debate the ol' foreskin snip 'til the cows come home.

Talk about the kind of "oops" that changes lives. A convicted murderer was mistakenly released from prison this week, allowed to walk right out the door and out onto the streets. Any guesses where Steven L. Robbins is now? Yours are as good as the folks in Chicago where an error reportedly made by court and security officials let the 44-year-old get away! He's out on the streets. And I'm thinking somebody's going to be out of a job soon.

We all want innovative educators working with our kids. But a Florida high school teacher may have been a bit too creative. The science test he gave to students included questions about driving over babies and teachers throwing kids into walls. Sound like the kind of guy you want teaching your kids? I'm not so sure I'd be signing my kid up for Dean Liptak's class.

10 Commandments of Motherhood

I'm probably the last mom you would expect to hear quoting the 10 Commandments. I gave up on organized religion a long time ago. And yet, there's some pretty solid advice in there for kids. No one wants to raise the kid who kills or steals, right? We've modified it a bit for our family to cut out the overtly religious mentions, but my kid knows there are some hard and fast rules you just don't break in life. It's got me wondering: what if there was a 10 Commandments for moms? Rules that have nothing to do with religion but rules we just don't break? What would that look like?
