Did 'Sister Wives' Family Find Perfect Baby-Making Schedule?

Sister Wives
Need another clue the family on the TLC reality show Sister Wives aren't quite average joes? Kody Brown and his fourth "wife" Robyn were getting antsy because they'd been married a whole 10 months, and they hadn't started baby making yet. Yes, that was 10 months, not 10 years.

In a nation where more people are either having kids without the wedding or getting married and then taking the time enjoy themselves, the big baby announcement on tonight's Sister Wives was just another reason this polygamous family seems to draw the watchers -- even put up against the likes of the MTV Movie Awards. So much of what they do is so much like us. And then there's the rest of us.

Like, you know, the running out of Utah to Vegas with a federal bigamy investigation hanging over our heads. Perfect world to bring a baby into. But we're getting off track. The real puzzler here is why Kody Brown convinced Robyn to add yet another baby to his brood of 16 kids plus four "wives" (remember, only one is a legal wife), and all in such a short time.

Far be it for me to calculate the perfect amount of time between wedding and conception. My husband and I had been married five and a half years before welcoming our daughter to this world, something we planned. But ours was a personal decision. I have friends who did the baby first, followed by marriage. Others are in committed relationships, sans rings.

It's all personal. I get that. Some people are ready sooner, some later (and some not at all!). And age is often a factor.

That said, 10 months into a marriage, and already freaking out? Mormon religion or not, it's 10 months! You're just figuring out HOW to roll him when he snores so you get him to shut up without actually waking him up. Now you have to work that act with your pregnancy pillow between you two? Not happening!

Considering 60 percent of couples take at least six months of trying to conceive to actually get there, that seems like it's really putting a lot of pressure on a marriage. Infertility is stressful. It's maddening, frustrating, and can tear a couple in half. It's not for the faint of heart, or for the newlyweds still trying to fight out which way to load a dishwasher.

Then again, statistics show 75 percent of couples get pregnant within nine months, 80 percent within a year of trying, so Kody could be onto something. Begin on your wedding night, and in 10 months, you could have a bun in the oven.

Do you think the Sister Wives family has the right schedule between wedding and conception? Is there any perfect amount of time? What worked for your family?
