Hold on to your iPods, Gleeks, they just got more valuable. Atlantic Records has dropped its plans for Gwyneth Paltrow to record her own album ... leaving fans of Gwynnie's voice (if not her whole persona) with just a few options. They can pick up a copy of the Country Strong DVD or start hitting the Glee catalog ... hard!
Apparently it's Gwyn's own fault that her album dreams came crashing down hard. Page Six reports she wanted a cool million to drop some harmonies. Atlantic apparently took one look at the dismal DVD sales for Country Strong and opted out. But Paltrow isn't a complete idiot. She knows where her bread is buttered, and that's good news for us Gleeks.
First off, there's her little appearance on Mr. Schue, er, Matthew Morrison's debut album. The self-titled album features Gwyn singing "Over the Rainbow" from The Wizard of Oz. The arrangement is a little schmaltzy, but it's such a sweet song it's hard not to grin. And now that the whole album is out, it's selling like gangbusters. So there's that.
But even better, Gwyn knows that it's her work as the kooky substitute Holly Holliday on Glee that has forced many of the same folks she pissed off with her nattering on GOOP to accept that she's got talent. Now rumor has it Paltrow will join the Glee cast on tour this summer, showing up in a few "surprise appearances."
So she gets to still live her dreams of being a musician, and we get another taste of Holly Holliday? Sounds like good news to me!
And who knows, if she keeps making us Glee fans happy, maybe the record companies will come around. They haven't exactly missed how fast a Glee release charges up the charts.
