Stephen Colbert Twitter
Imagine someone gave you permission to lie with impunity in a public forum. Fun, right? You can just make stuff up, the more ridiculous, the better, and laugh your hiney off? Welcome to the world of Stephen Colbert and the new Twitter hashtag NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement. Or perhaps we should be thanking Senator Jon Kyl?

He's the Arizona Senator who got up in front of Congress last week and lied through his teeth about how much time is spent at Planned Parenthood providing abortions, then turned around and tried to excuse it all away with a statement from his office that "his remark was not intended to be a factual statement." The "Honorable" Senator Kyl (yes, I use that word loosely) just opened the doors for us all to be Fibber McGees on the Internet, as long as we use Colbert's fancy little hashtag to keep ourselves out of trouble.

Launched last night on Colbert's "StephenAtHome" Twitter page, it spread like wildfire across the Twitterverse. And thank heavens, if Colbert ever runs out of truthiness, we now know where to turn. Because some of these tweeters could take his place in a heartbeat. Behold the beauty of lying on the Internet:

From @gcglam: Jon Kyl watches the Daily Show. #Notintendedtobeafactualstatement

From @joeyjack: Jon Kyl taught Eric Massa how to give massages. Due to pending litigation, I can't get into it. #NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement

From @Solanus1234: @StephenAtHome: Whenever John Boehner cries, Jon Kyl gets an uncontrollable case of the giggles. #NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement

From @therealmacgyver: Every time someone gets an abortion, Jon Kyl kills 90% of a kitten #NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement

From @Iamflandagan: Jon Kyl traded the Facebook algorithm to Mark Zuckerburg for a meatball sub & a Yoo-Hoo. #NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement

From @dyaaron: Jon Kyl's house is filled with Santorum. #NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement

From @wschroeder127: Jon Kyl wrote Rebecca Black's "Friday". And that bitch is reaping all of the benefits. #NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement

Who gets your vote for the next Comedy Central show host? What's been your favorite NotIntendedToBeAFactualStatement tweet today?
