There is a first for everything. And getting psyched about the announcement of a new cast for Dancing With the Stars is most definitely a first for me. But didja hear, didja hear? Gavin DeGraw is going to be whirling Karina Smirnoff around the dance floor in Season 14.
And my hiney will be glued to my couch. Because to most of America, DeGraw might just be the guy whose mega super hit became the theme song to the CW's One Tree Hill and the singer who was mercilessly beaten in a mugging last August. But the one non-has-been on this year's cast (um, Not Over You went platinum last year people) is more than just a pretty face.
Let me lay this out for you. He is a small town dude from the middle of nowhere who managed to make it out of the sticks and to the top of the charts. Which is pretty darn awesome if you ask this fellow kid from the country. But I don't expect you to vote DeGraw just because he's from my neck of the woods.
He's also the sweet dude from my 'hood who took the time to cuddle with my kiddo (that's them above) when he was in town doing some charity work a few years back and a babysitting snafu meant my 3-year-old was acting as assistant to her newspaper reporter mama. Yes, it's true, you can buy your way into a mom blogger's heart. All you have to do is take some serious time out of your busy world-wandering schedule to make her little girl feel like she is the coolest thing on this planet.
Come on, tell me that didn't do it for you too? A guy who is adorable, can sing like an angel, and is nice to random little girls? Commence swooning. He has to win!
Folks, I'm voting for DeGraw because I refuse to believe "nice guys finish last." Who's going to join me in keeping this star dancing all season?
