Kim Kardashian Kris Humphries baseballAttention Americans who thought the 72-day marriage of Kim Kardashian and New Jersey Nets star Kris Humphries contributed absolutely nothing to society! The Minnesota Twins are going to make you eat your words. Yes, that's right, a baseball team, of all groups, has found a way to milk the most famous marriage for the benefit of all!

Back when Kim and Kris were still kanoodling, you might remember they showed up at Target Field so hometown boy Humphries could throw out the ceremonial first pitch at a summer game. They were kind enough at the time to autograph a ball while they were there, which the Twins put up for charity auction this week! Any guesses on how much this rare piece of Dash history went for?

The double signatures drew 27 bidders and pulled in a cool $1,500. In the world of sports memorabilia, that's not too shabby. Especially when you consider a ball signed by former Twins first baseman and Hall of Famer Rod Carew, priced at just $120, has garnered no bids at all, even though it will end later today.

And now for the really good part: the Twins will be turning around and donating 90 percent of that to unspecified charities. I'm willing to bet Kim and Kris knew that would happen when they signed their names to the ball. But I can't help but wondering if -- in an odd way -- their divorce actually helped jack the price up a little bit. After all, Kris is a popular sports star; he could have been called on to throw out more pitches over his lifetime. If they'd stayed together, there would have been ample opportunity to get those two signatures scrawled across more memorabilia items. Now that's not likely.

A guy who goes by "Spiderhead" on the Twins' MLB Auction site really has something rare on his hands, while charities in need have a substantial donation to add to their coffers in a bad economy. Sounds like a win for everyone, doesn't it?

Think this 'signatures sold for good" story will shut the Kardashian haters up for good?
