Like any die hard fan of the New York Yankees, I expect Alex Rodriguez will have a new girlfriend every time I turn around. We grin and bear it because that's the way this guy rolls. But when A-Rod was caught smooching wrestler Torrie Wilson in the stands at an LA Lakers game this week, I couldn't have been more relieved.
Having another athlete in the stands could mean great things for the Yanks in 2012! Their third baseman has finally found a girlfriend who "gets" what it means to be a world class athlete! And it's about darn time.
I don't mean to drop Torrie down to mere arm candy status here, but let's get real. Every time Alex gets into a relation with one of his celebrity hotties, his game suffers. I'm not the only fan in pinstripes who'd prefer to forget the way his numbers took a dip in 2008 when he was hooking up with Madonna. And last year's injury-plagued season, coupled with the longest single season home run drought of his career, just so happened to coincide with him canoodling with Cameron Diaz. Could be coincidence, or it could be all that time they spent talking about making movies together and running all over the world.
A big part of being in a relationship is supporting your significant other. And dating a New York Yankee means being prepared for him to put the Bombers first.
Now we've got Torrie, who has spent years on the fitness competition and wrestling circuits. The former Miss Galaxy knows what it means to keep your head in the game, and she knows what it means to keep your body in shape. From the fan's perspective, she couldn't be a better fit for what we need to get out of our slugger: like the return of that powerful swing.
Best sign of all: Torrie and Alex have already been spotted working out together at a gym in Idaho and riding bikes together in Miami. That's just the stuff he needs to be doing to get ready for spring training. Maybe a girlfriend with an athlete's drive is just what Alex needs to get back to the World Series?
