I'm the kind of girl who never saw a Christmas light show that didn't make her stop in the street to say "ooh" and "aah." But if you think you've already seen some pretty nifty shows this season, get ready to have them blown out of the water. Seems the new trend is to set your holiday lights to music and promote a cause to the visitors it attracts.
And some of the coolest? They're all about the men and women who make it possible for us here in the states to put on our elaborate holiday bonanzas. Yes, I'm talking about our nation's military. And if you still claim to have seen cooler light shows than the ones that pop with patriotism, methinks you're lying. Check these out!
The folks at the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, a non-profit that helps not just injured Marines but servicemembers from any sector of the armed forces (and their families!), shares one of the best houses of the season. The lights, which naturally include lots of red, white, and blue, plus an American flag, were timed to Lee Greenwood's classic "God Bless the USA." And that would have been cool enough, wouldn't it? But wait ... there's more! They managed to throw in the songs of each branch of our military. Honestly, folks, goosebumps, goosebumps. Take a look:

If that doesn't have your heart bursting, how about this one? The Brown family from Stafford, Virginia, started their light shows in 2007, and they've been drawing crowds to their home ever since. Last year, Duane and Linda took the poem/song known as "Soldier's Silent Night," a reading by Father Ted Berndt over the music of Mannheim Steamroller, and devoted their entire holiday show to our troops:

What's more beautiful than America? A California house lit up in patriotic colors all set to the sounds of "America the Beautiful." Prepare the tissues now:

The way Janet and Michael Poulimas see it, it's because of our troops that we can "freely celebrate" the Christmas season. That's why they dedicate their light show in Sharpsville, Indiana to veterans every year, and they make available an MP3 recording they made of vets talking about their experiences to anyone who wants to incorporate it into their own show. They close with a reminder of what a wonderful world we live in:
