More details are coming out on the meeting between Adam Lanza's dad and the parents of one of his victims at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Peter Lanza sat down with Robbie and Alissa Parker who lost their little girl, Emilie, to talk about what his son did. But in perhaps the most surprising revalation about the conversation to come out on CBS News, what was talked about is being overshadowed by how it happened. You see, the Parkers were the first (and as yet seemingly the only) family Peter Lanza chose to meet with. So why them? What made this family, out of more than 26 innocent dead (not including Lanza's ex-wife, Nancy), so special?

8 Types of Moms: Which One are You?

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but sometimes I wonder if our parents' generation was right. About at least one thing anyway. There were no lawnmower moms or wolf dads. They were just moms and dads. There are so many different terms used to describe parenting styles these days that I can hardly keep them straight. Should we be free-range or attachment? And what's with all the animal names? Are we parenting kids or building a zoo? FINALLY, I have some answers for you!

5 Best Gay-Friendly Ads on TV

The other day I sat down to watch Hitchcock (yeah, I'm a mom, I don't get around to these things until the DVD release) and actually snorted when the famous director was seen on screen arguing for the right to show a toilet flushing in his famous film, Psycho. America, can you believe that we were once that uptight? Considering the hub bub over American companies finally showing gay couples in TV commercials, I suppose we shouldn't be shocked. But here it is: progress. Finally! Our television screens are playing host to an increasing number of commercials celebrating the fact that LGBT folks are just like the rest of us.

There seem to be just two responses to the latest essay going viral on the Internet. Either you love the open letter in the Wall Street Journal dubbed "To All the Colleges That Rejected Me" or you hate it. No matter which side you're on, Suzy Lee Weiss, the teenage girl who wrote it, has a message for you. Rejection is good for our kids. Just look what it did for her.

'Teen Mom' Farrah Abraham Is Going to Bizarre Lengths to Stay Famous

If we could build a list of people who have just about used up their 15 minutes of fame, Farrah Abraham would shoot right to the top. The former Teen Mom star has had a doozy of a few weeks what with that big DUI arrest. But the latest allegations from quasi-ex-boyfriend (we'll explain that in a minute) Carson Underwood really show how out-of-control Farrah's taste for the famous life has become. Underwood, you'll remember, is the guy Farrah was willing to move to LA to be with after just a week of dating. Well, what she called dating, anyway.

The news that Glee star Cory Monteith had entered rehab for substance abuse may not have surprised fans familiar with his past, but that doesn't mean they don't have questions. Like what the heck is going to happen to the show without one of their leading men? Turns out they're moving on ... without him! Oh, don't get your knickers with the Finn face on the butt in a twist. Ryan Murphy hasn't fired Monteith.

Mom Stabbed in Broad Daylight While Baby Sits Helpless in Stroller

It's a hard thing to admit, but being a mom makes you more vulnerable. Where most of us see a bundle of love, criminals often see babies as collateral damage in their mission to do something descpicable, and the horror that befell a mom in Boston this week only drives that one home. The mom pushing a stroller was brutally attacked in broad daylight, stabbed with a butcher knife while her 8-month-old son lay, helpless. And now that police have at least one of her assailants in custody, we know now that they used her baby against her. Worse? At least one of the alleged attackers was the baby's own father.

Talk about a rock and a hard place. Parents of a 4-month-old baby with HIV in Minnesota have been given two choices: give their little boy drugs they fear will harm him or lose him entirely. An easy choice? Maybe for you, but Lindsey Nagel, who passed HIV to her son, took anti-viral medication as a child, and her parents say it almost killed her. Now doctors insist the same drugs be given to her child.

School Gets First Integrated Prom But It's No Thanks to Racist Adults

It's been 2013 for four months now in most parts of the United States. In the Georgia town where students are launching the first ever "integrated prom," they're just now hitting the 1960s. Maybe by the time the prom actually happens (if it actually happens), they might be somewhere near this decade. That is ... if the school will finally cancel the "white prom" that bars kids of other races from attending. Yes, this is what the kids at Wilcox County High School in south Georgia are up against. Can I just say I'm so glad teens are generally willful and rebellious?

More Parents are Resorting to Unconventional Methods to Treat Autism, But Who Wouldn't?

Think the autism diagnosis numbers are unsettling for parents? How's this figure? A new poll shows one in three parents of children on the spectrum admit to having tried remedies that have no real scientific fact to back them up. Coming from a mom who has the pediatrician on speed-dial, the very idea terrifies me. And breaks my heart.

10 Fun, Fabulous Book Characters That Every Little Girl Should Meet

We had a big win in my house last month. We finally convinced our second grade daughter to try the Ramona Quimby books. She dove in, and she hasn't come up for air yet. Score one for girl power in the book shelves! I've been a little down in the dumps about the state of children's literature lately -- particularly the message being sent to young girls. The "hot" books that my daughter's classmates are reading all seem to have male characters at the center ... and boys who are jerks to boot (seriously, what do people SEE in this Wimpy Kid character?). I've taken those books as a challenge. Can I find feminist role models in children's literature, girls I want my daughter to read about and be like?

'Pregnant Man' Divorce Is Officially the Craziest Case Ever

Ever heard of a judge telling a couple they can't divorce? That's what's happened to the so-called Pregnant Man, Thomas Beatie, and wife Nancy. The couple who separated last spring have been told they can't divorce because transgender Thomas and wife married in Hawaii, a state that doesn't recognize same sex marriage. The way the courts tell it; they were never married to begin with! So what's a couple to do? Throw up their hands and say, well, that was easy, now we don't have to pay for a costly divorce? Nope, the Pregnant Man and his wife, who technically want a divorce, are now fighting ... for the right to be married. Good for them!

Picture it: you're awoken by your 8-year-old daughter screaming. You go running and you find an intruder has broken into your home through a window and taken your sleeping baby out of the crib. A kidnapping is in progress. What do you do? I would have had a heart attack. Not Dennis Meyers. He's the Florida dad who found a strange woman in his baby's bedroom over the weekend.

Have a set of pearls handy? Get clutching 'em because there is absolutely shocking news on the interwebs today. According to some bigwig in children's services, pornography is so widespread these days that entire classrooms of teenage boys have seen it! In fact, when they surveyed a class of 14-year-olds, every boy and half the girls had gotten a look-see at some naughtiness. Can you imagine? Teen boys have looked at porn? Next they're going to tell me that they're not really washing their hour for 20 minutes in the shower. My stars!

Baby Born on Dad's Birthday ... and Grandpa's Too!

Oh my cuteness! A little boy named Sanders Delperdang was born on Tuesday, April 2. That's exactly 29 years after his dad was born. Oh, and 62 years after his grandpa was born. Yup, all three generations of men in the Delperdang family were all born on the same day! Now I don't have to tell you that the odds of that are pretty slim. Sharing a birthday with just one family member is rare. Sharing it with two? Practically unheard of. The Delperdangs are -- not surprisingly -- over the moon. But here's betting this is extra special for one of them in particular.

Ever wonder what the theme song of parenthood would be? I don't mean the NBC show (which borrowed Bob Dylan's Forever Young). I mean the exhausting, stinky, maddening reality of parenthood. What would the song behind that drama be like? Now we know! A father of a 1-year-old has written an Ode to Sleep-Deprived Parents, and none other than the Sydney Symphony has recorded the ditty. Sung to the tune of Carl Orff's Carmina Burana (trust me, you'll recognize it when you hear it), this is what we've all been waiting for. Finally! Someone who gets it!! Listen up:

Every once in awhile there's a celebrity story that brings tears to your eyes ... in a good way. Take the way basketball great Magic Johnson has handled his son Earvin EJ Johnson III coming out as a gay man. Magic has been a class act. Heck, after listening to him talk about how he first found out EJ was gay -- way back when he was a young teen -- I kind of wish the Lakers legend was my dad. Magic's eyes quite literally light up with love when he's talking about his son, and his explanation of how he and wife Cookie have helped their boy through the whole process is like a road map for parents of gay teens.

How well do you know your neighbors? Are they trustworthy? Are you sure? Folks in one Florida neighborhood probably thought so. Then they found out the guy living up the block was being arrested and called the " No. 1 person that can distribute child pornography throughout the world." Cops say John Shearen downloaded the most child pornography in the state of Florida. And now they're stuck going door-to-door, breaking the news to parents that this sicko was living right down the street from their kids.

It has to be hard being Kailyn Lowry. Every time the Teen Mom 2 star turns around, someone else is talking smack about her. You could call it the price of fame, but when the smack talk comes from her own co-stars, you can't blame Kail for fighting back. And boy did she ever. The topic? Kail's supposed pregnancy.

There's some good news in the Halle Berry camp this week. Word has it the gorgeous Oscar winning actress is pregnant with baby number two! Talk about one brave move from this mama. You wouldn't know it to look at her, but Berry is 46 years old. That means she's more than a decade past what doctors term the beginning of the "advanced maternal age."
