Post by Jeanne Sager
My fellow Americans, the day we have all been waiting for is almost here! Daylight Saving Time begins this weekend! You know what this means? Spring is almost here, and it's dragging the afternoon sun along with it! Oh yeah, and it's time to change your clocks. Already having dreams of sitting out on the porch watching the fireflies? Here's everything you need to know about the hap, hap, happiest time of the year! Er, I mean, Daylight Saving Time ...

How's this for a lesson in you never know who could end up saving a life? The former owner of a massage parlor is being lauded by police for helping them uncover a plot to sell a child into what would amount to sex slavery ... right here in America. The mother of an innocent baby is now in jail, along with the man Indiana cops say was going to buy her 18-month-old daughter to make child porn. Is your stomach turning? Just imagine how much worse it could have been ...

My Teenage Babysitter Is My Favorite 'Parenting Expert'

Sometimes it feels like being a mom means being terrified of the other shoe dropping. There are so many unknowns, you can't help but be afraid. Case in point: the teen years. Until you have one in your house, you have no idea what to expect. Which is why I have stumbled onto a brilliant plan ... moms, find a teenager, any teenager! And milk her (or him) for all the information you can get. Hey, it worked for Oz the Great and Powerful star Michelle Williams. The mother of 7-year-old Matilda ended up shooting a whole movie with 13-year-old actress Joey King, and as King told The Stir, she took full advantage of it!

Lisa Ling Has a Baby Girl and Oh, What a Name!

Finally some good news for Lisa Ling on the baby front! The former View host has been one of Hollywood's bravest voices talking about miscarriage in recent years, even starting a "Secret Society of Women" project for women who've shared her struggles. But Ling gave birth to a healthy baby girl on Friday afternoon! This is the first child for Ling and her husband, Dr. Paul Song, and the couple announced via US Weekly that they're "nervously excited" new parents. Aww! It's so sweet! But come on, all we really want to know is the baby's name, right? And oh what a name it is!

Danielle Fishel Strips Down for 'Maxim' and Makes Us Drool Over Topanga All Over Again

For guys of a certain age, Danielle Fishel will always be the ultimate woman. Topanga from Boy Meets World -- or as some of my husband's friend still refer to her, To-bang-a -- was sponsor of her fair share of sticky socks and extra long showers in the '90s. And now she's baaaaaack ... not to mention more smokin' then ever on a rather confusing cover of Maxim. Let's be real. Letting Fishel grocery shop in her undies and a trench coat is definitely a great way to get attention for her new sitcom, Girl Meets World, a Cory and Topanga spin-off of everyone's favorite '90s TGIF sitcom. Our husbands and brothers only wished Fishel had looked like this back in the day and worn these clothes ... or should I say NOT worn? The April issue of Maxim is going to sell. Period. But there's a question that is just dying to be asked: who the heck are they marketing this show to?

Miley Cyrus Takes Off Ring and Reveals She Can Never Have a Normal Marriage

OMG. Did you hear the news? Miley Cyrus has taken off her engagement ring from fiance Liam Hemsworth. PEOPLE! Do you know what this means? Girlfriend might have been doing dishes before she went outside! Or, OMG, maybe she was playing with her dog and it fell off? OR, wait, no, maybe she took a shower and it dropped down the drain? Or the dog ate it? Or ... OK, so maybe Miley Cyrus took her ring off because Liam Hemsworth is really a jerk who cheated on her. But you see how long it took to get there?

Lindsay Lohan Is an Idiot to Ignore House Arrest

What was the moment when you officially thought Lindsay Lohan had lost it? When she skipped a mandatory DUI hearing to go to Cannes? When she stole a necklace from a jewelry store? How about when she was offered house arrest instead of jail time and she said "yeah, nah, I'll pass"? Yup, Lilo has reportedly been offered just 90 days of house arrest to pay for her latest legal entanglement. Considering she's now officially a repeat offender, it sounds like a gift from the gods. But not for Lindsay, natch. I'd say it's official ... Lindsay is now delusional.

Couple's Second Lottery Win Celebration Makes Them Sound Greedy

They say lightning never strikes twice. Tell that to the Arizona couple who are celebrating their second lottery win this week. Diane and Kerry Carmichael will bring home a cool $1 million as second prize winners in this week's Powerball. Considering they already won $2.5 million in December 1995, they should be done now, right? Yeah, not so much ...

Holly Madison Explains 'Weird' Baby Name and It All Makes Sense Now

The world has pretty much let former Playboy Playmate Holly Madison know that the baby name she chose for her new little girl is not going to skyrocket to the top of the charts. So now that you're done picking the new mama apart, think you can pause a second and hear why she chose it? I don't know why people are surprised to hear this, but it turns out Madison and beau Pasquale Rotella put real thought into naming their daughter. Ready to hear the new mom's explanation for naming Rainbow Aurora?

Elisabeth Hasselbeck Shouldn't Be Leaving 'The View'

So you've heard the rumors. Long-time The View co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck is leaving the ABC morning show (along with Joy Behar) because she's too right wing. But is this really the right way to keep Barbara Walters' baby alive?  The network responded to the bye bye Elisabeth rumors with a statement that says only that the conservative co-host is a "valued" member of the team and has a "long-term contract." Ye-owch! Sounds like a nice way of saying "don't let the door hit you on the you-know-what on your way out," doesn't it?

'Teen Mom 2' Recap: Jenelle Evans Puts Plastic Surgery and Drugs Ahead of Her Son

It would be nice to watch Teen Mom 2 and be surprised by Jenelle Evans. Unfortunately season 4 looks like more of the same. This week we got to see a lot more of Kieffer, Jenelle once again smoking weed, and the story behind Jenelle's breast implants. So what didn't we see? Much of little Jace. The teen mom spent most of tonight's episode prioritizing everything but her son.

Alec Baldwin's Wife Bans English From Her House -- for Baby's Sake

I've always been a little jealous of new parents who speak another language. They've got a leg up on the rest of us when it comes to raising a bilingual kid. But Alec Baldwin's wife, Hilaria Thomas Baldwin, might be taking this bilingual baby business a bit too far. The pregnant wife of the 30 Rock star is putting a ban on English spoken in her house after their daughter is born. Thomas says this is the way to guarantee little girl Baldwin grows up speaking Spanish. OK, fine, but what about poor English-speaking Dad?

4 Secrets to Having a Happy Family

Post by Jeanne Sager
When I'm having a rough day with my kid and feeling like a lousy mom, there's an old Tolstoy quote that always makes me feel better: "Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way." See? At least we're not boring!  But a dad named Bruce Feiler says he's found a way to have a happy family without being boring. In fact, the father of identical twin daughters told The Stir he was so sick of reading parenting books and finding the same old "30-year-old advice, delivered with warmed-over homilies, retold endlessly" that he decided to dive into the lives of real families. He wanted to find out what made them happy, and how to steal their secrets for his family. The result?

10 Quotes for Military Wives That Celebrate Their Strength, Honor and Love

The United States military is one of the largest in the world at nearly 1.5 million strong, and my fellow Americans, we should be praising them from the rooftops! And that includes the men and women married to our military and the moms and dads of our soldiers. When do they get some love? Hello, America! Military families are the backbone of our armed forces. A military wife is oftentimes putting up with months home alone with the kids, worrying about her husband in the line of danger, and all while seriously missing her military husband. So how about we do a little something to honor them once in awhile? Well, here we gooooooo!

What It's Like to Raise a Kid With Autism -- When You're Autistic Too

There's been a lot of buzz these past few weeks about what happens when kids with autism grow up. With diagnoses at what some call "epidemic" levels, it's about time we start talking about the reality that autism is not just a kid thing. In fact, it can be a parent thing ... because every day in America, grownups with autism are having kids.  So what's it like to be a parent with autism? Who better to ask than John Elder Robison? The Massachusetts dad and member of the Autism Speaks Scientific Advisory and Scientific Treatment Board has just published Raising Cubby, his hilarious memoir of having Asperger's and raising a (now nearly grownup) son on the spectrum.

Daycare Teacher Ties Up 2-Year-Old Who Refused to Nap and Then Brags About It

A preschool in California is in hot water after a teacher allegedly tied up a 2-year-old girl for refusing to take a nap. The little girl's mom found out thanks to a photo the teacher took that was being passed around a gathering of current and former teachers, and you can just imagine the look on her face when she saw her toddler's wrists and ankles bound with masking tape! Cops are investigating, so it looks like this teacher's disturbing nap strategies will be dealt with. But while we're on the subject, why is a daycare worker trying to FORCE a child to nap anyway?

Mom Confession: I Take My iPhone to the Park and Ignore My Kid

Have you seen the latest viral blog post going around? Don't worry, if you missed "Dear Mom on the iPhone," allow me to sum it up thusly: it's a finger-wagging bunch of mom shaming aimed at parents who do not spend every waking moment wrapped up in their little snowflakes' lives. Written by a mom whose blog pronounces, "I'm a Mom, what's your super power?" the sanctimony is to be expected. What's shocked me is how fast it's traveled around the blogosphere, and how furiously it's being defended. I guess it's obvious, isn't it? I am that mom on the iPhone at the park.

New Vaccine Given to Babies at Birth May Prevent Scary Illnesses

Drop the word vaccine in a room full of moms, and you might want to dive for cover. But ladies, I'm going to do it anyway. There's talk of a new "supervaccine" being designed for babies ... and it could be the answer to every new mom's prayers. It's not a vaccine with a cape (come on, you know you thought it too), but the supervaccine docs at Harvard and Boston Children’s Hospital are trying to get off the ground could make them superheroes anyway. Imagine spending the first two months of your baby's life NOT terrified of germs. It almost sounds too good to be true!

12-Year-Old Gives Manicures to Kids With Special Needs and Teaches Them Important Lesson

On a good day, you couldn't pay me to go back to high school, but it's stories like the one you're about to read that make me miss being a teenager. Meet Alanna Wall. She was born in 2000 (she'll be 13 this year), and she's the brains behind Polished Girlz, a non-profit that visits children's hospitals to do glittery manicures on the fingers of sick kids and kids with special needs. Hers is a beautiful story -- literally and figuratively. Alanna loves glitter and nail polish. And she doesn't care what society thinks about these girlish pursuits -- she's using them to change the world.

Mom Who Reportedly Smothered Twin Babies ‘Refused to Accept’ She Was Pregnant

Cops in Tennessee told a terrifying story to a jury this week. They say Lindsey Lowe told them that she smothered her twins just after they were born. They're calling the mom a murderer, and they say that the fact that she never told anyone she was pregnant, never bought a single diaper or onesie, proves it. So what does Lowe's lawyer have to say about all that? He's got one doozy of a defense: he says his client wasn't planning to kill her babies as soon as they were born. She was just in denial.
