Convicted Pedophile Blames Recession for Making Him Hurt Kids

Post by Jeanne Sager
A British businessman convicted of multiple charges of child porn creation and possession has come up with one of the oddest excuses for his misdeeds ever. Craig Seville said the recession turned him into a pedophile. Well, now I've heard everything. I'm sure that Seville's business, a flying school, was suffering as the economy flagged. Most of us cut out unnecessary items when things get tight, and flying lessons are most definitely unnecessary. But can you really blame the economy for giving you lustful thoughts about children?

Restroom Pervert Preys on 11-Year-Old and Makes Us Wonder if Kids Are Ever Old Enough to Pee Alone

All right, Moms, when do you think kids are old enough to use a public bathroom by themselves? Eight? Ten? Surely by 11 a child should be safe walking into a men's room alone, right? Tell that to the mom who found out a peeping tom was taking photos of her tween in a grocery store bathroom in Washington state. I'm the last parent on Earth who thought she'd say this, but I'm now officially tempted to follow my daughter into the bathroom through high school. Maybe even college?

Yahoo's Telecommuting Ban Hurts Moms -- SO WHAT!!!

Post by Jeanne Sager
Since news broke that Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer has banned telecommuting for its employees, the uproar has been dominated almost entirely by one voice: the moms. How dare Mayer, a mother of a small baby, cut working moms off at the knees like this, we've asked. Over. And over. And over again. It's a valid argument, but Moms, as much as you're going to hate hearing this, it's not the one that we need to be making against the shortsightedness of companies like Yahoo that would think to cut work at home options. Marissa Mayer's new plan isn't just bad for the parents on staff. It's bad for the American economy. That's the message we need to be screaming at the tops of our lungs.

Do you ever ask yourself how far you'd go to make your child's dreams come true? Think about that while you read this story. A mom named Hiroyo Klink was in the stands at her 17-year-old son's championship soccer game when she suffered a stroke. She knew she was slipping away, but she insisted that no one tell her boy that she was dying. Leo Klink ended up winning the state championship for his high school team that day. He scored all three goals for Kalani.

5 Sweet Commercials That Really Get Modern Fatherhood

It's the height of irony that since I became a mom, I have felt myself becoming a champion for fathers. Sure, before I had a kid, I liked dads all right. I love my daddy, and I knew my husband was bound to be a good father. But I didn't really notice how awful the portrayals of fathers on TV were until I was faced, day after day, with a man who was anything but the bumbling idiot you see on the average sitcom or commercial. It's the hapless dad so pervasive in American advertising that made the dad bloggers at the Dad 2.0 Summit tell American companies in no uncertain terms earlier this month that they've had just about enough. They're not going to be made fun of anymore and take it lying down. And you know what?

So word has it Mercury is in retrograde and everything is going all topsy turvy. And just in case you don't believe all that astrology mumbo jumbo, here's proof: a fraternity in Massachusetts is raising money so a transgender brother can have sex change surgery. I KNOW! It's pretty much the last thing I'd expect from a bunch of beer chugging college frat boys, but there it is. Frat boys as bonehead losers is old and busted. Frat boys as effing saints is the new hotness. And yeah, it gets better (pun very much intended).

Have you had a good, long cry today? Get out the tissues, because there's no way to get through Quinn Linzer's story without tearing up. She's just 9 months old, but the Long Island baby has a to-do list that could exhaust a grown woman. Only Quinn won't ever be a grown woman. Doctors have told her parents to "go home and love her" because they can't treat Niemann-Pick Disease, Type A, the rare disease little Quinn was born with. She isn't expected to live to her first birthday. That's where the to-do list comes in.

Michelle Williams Struggles to Balance Love, Work and Being a Mom

It's been quite the month for actress Michelle Williams. She's about to hit theaters in her biggest movie role yet -- leading the cast of Oz the Great and Powerful -- and all anyone wants to talk about is her relationship with boyfriend (or ex-boyfriend?) Jason Segel. Is it any wonder the actress and mom to 7-year-old Matilda struggles to find balance in her life? When The Stir sat down with Williams at the Langham Hotel in Pasadena, California (home of Bachelorette Ashley Hebert's wedding to J.P. Rosenbaum!) to talk about her role as Glinda the good witch in Oz, the talented Oscar nominee admitted she doesn't have it all figured out just yet -- work or motherhood. And yet, listening to her, it's clear Williams is selling herself short as a mom. Just wait 'til you hear her epiphany on washing dishes!

Moms Who Need 'Nanny Doctors' to Give Their Babysitters a Talking to Probably Shouldn't Be Parents

Oh my stars have I got a story for you all today. It seems it is so rough out there for moms who have nannies that a whole new job has been created. Nanny doctor. What, you're thinking, a babysitter with a medical degree? I went there first too because, hey, in this economy, you never know how low the educated might have to fall to put food on the table. Ah, if only this new-fangled notion for moms made that kind of sense. If only. So what, exactly, is a nanny doctor?

When people find out I married a guy I met on the Internet, I am prepared for the inevitable question: how could you be sure you knew the real him? In the age of Catfish, it's a fair question. But then, if you've done any Internet dating, you know there's one quick way to strike at least a few of the crazies right off your list. Take a look at their screen name. Does it make you laugh? In a good way or in a "OMG what kind of nutbag loser would actually put that out there?" There you go. The Internet dating world is full of nutbag losers, and their hilariously awful screen names are like big flashing warning signs. Not sure what I'm talking about? The Stir talked to some Internet daters and rounded up some of the absolute worst dating profile names they've seen on the Internet. Believe it or not, they're all real ... sadly!

4-Year-Old Shoots Himself With Stolen Gun: Can His Dad Ever Forgive Himself?

It's another sad gun story. A 4-year-old boy shot himself in the stomach in Houston this week with what cops say was a stolen gun. Little Jaiden died of the gunshot wound, and cops have arrested his father, Marquiez Deshon Pratt, who was reportedly sleeping when his little boy found the gun and pulled the trigger. It's a story that leaves so many questions unanswered, but the one loudest in my head right now is "what now?" What now for Marquiez Deshon Pratt?

Greedy, Gross Adult Entertainment Guys Want to Turn 'Miss Teen USA' Into Something Dirty

I can think of about 100 reasons I will never let my daughter compete in pageants. No, wait, make that 101. Because this week Miss Delaware Teen USA Melissa King has been offered a quarter of a million dollars to promote a hardcore porn site! The offer from YouPorn came right after the 18-year-old was forced to turn in her crown and sash over a dirty video that allegedly features the teenage pageant queen. King, for her part, denies it's her in the video. But that didn't stop the porn site from trying to take advantage of the publicity ... the publicity involving a pageant for TEENAGERS.

Does this make any sense to you? Seven children went missing from their house in Fresno, California this week while their mom and stepfather were out grocery shopping. No one noticed the seven Yang kids being abducted, no one has any clue where they went. I have mentioned that there were seven of them, right? Seven kids who up and disappeared into thin air ...

Baby With HIV Cured and It's Nothing Short of a Miracle

Are you ready for the biggest news of 2013? A baby born with HIV has been cured of the virus. CURED. As in the little girl will not die from AIDS. As in miracles do exist! The news is sweeping the medical and parenting worlds both today as doctors from Johns Hopkins in Maryland do the happy dance (or the official researchers version of it anyway). Considering this is only the second official person to ever be "cured" of HIV -- an adult in Germany was the first -- it's big news for mankind. But what about parents? What does this say for us?

Shocking New Ads Show Potential Teen Moms Just How Much They Will Ruin Their Kids' Lives -- Genius!?

Moms and Dads, you've talked to your teenager about sex, right? What have you said? Have you used the same old lines about how teen pregnancy will screw up their lives? Hey, at least you're talking about it. That's more than some parents are doing. But maybe there's a better way. There's a series of new ads out in the subways of New York City now, all aimed at scaring teenagers out of becoming the next Jenelle Evanses and Amber Portwoods of the world. But it's not the message of NYC's Human Resources Administration's new campaign that parents need to hear; it's who is getting in their kids' faces.

Nurse Refuses to Perform CPR on Dying Woman and 911 Call Catches It All (VIDEO)

A chilling 911 call out of Bakersfield, California is making the rounds of the Internet today, and it's not good news for the nurse on one end of the call. If what we're hearing is everything that happened, the nurse at a nursing home outright refuses to perform CPR on a dying woman even as the 911 dispatcher begs her to do the right thing. To make the sad case even more confusing: the nurse had actually called 911 to get help for the woman! By the time medics arrived, it was too late. Eighty-seven-year-old Lorraine Bayless died. Which leaves America wondering today: what should happen to this nurse? Should she be punished for letting someone die on her watch?

Another day, another kid running up an outrageous cellphone bill. This time, it's an 11-year-old who is costing dear old dad some $22,000! And parents, this one could happen to you ... even if you don't have a texter at home. Ah, gotcha, didn't I? We've heard more than our fair share of stories about teens racking up mega bills by texting, but Matt Buie's tween wasn't sending messages to anyone. He was using data. And to make matters worse, he was using that data out of the country.

All right, be honest, have you been thinking Casey Anthony has had it easy these last couple of years? Thinking after that jury said she didn't murder daughter Caylee, she got to waltz off into the sunset? Not. So. Fast. The woman dubbed "Tot Mom" during her explosive murder trial back in 2011 is back out in public today at a bankruptcy hearing. Anthony is being forced to sit down with her creditors and explain how the heck she's been living if she's only got $1,000 in assets. There's been talk of some mystery benefactor over the years, and if it's true, that ship might be about to sail.

'Teen Mom 2' Recap: Leah Needs to Show Jeremy a Little Respect

It can be hard watching Teen Mom 2 knowing that so much has changed since the season 4 episodes were shot. At least, we're hoping things have changed big time for Leah Messer's then-boyfriend (now husband) Jeremy Calvert. Because there's nothing good about how he's being treated on TV. For awhile now we've been watching Leah ping pong back and forth between her ex-husband Corey and Jeremy. Even getting engaged and getting pregnant with Jeremy's baby wasn't enough to make her commit to her new path, and tonight we really saw how little she thinks of her new man.
