Adam Lanza Caused Sandy Hook Tragedy, Not Women, Gays, Teachers, or Obama

This morning we marked one whole week since the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School with a moment of silence. It was a time to honor the lives lost, the children stolen from their families. But I can't help hoping it will be more. Will we finally be able to silence the ridiculous parade of "reasons" for the Sandy Hook shooting? In one week, we've certainly heard enough -- from pastors blaming the removal of God from the schools to a recent assertion that the school had become too "feminine." And quite frankly, I've had enough. There is only one true reason that children were murdered in Newtown, Connecticut last week.

Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose Think Marijuana and New Baby Are a Perfect Match

I have never believed the old malarkey that you are no fun after the baby comes. You can still be a cool couple if you put your mind to it. But it seems like Amber Rose and Wiz Khalifa are taking their plans to stay true to their old selves a wee bit too far. Their baby, they say, is going to know all about weed. Why, you might ask?

Supermodel Tells Mamas Not to Let Their Babies Grow Up to Be Supermodels (VIDEO)

For two years now, my daughter has had one dream that keeps me up at nights: she wants to be a model when she grows up. So when Victoria's Secret supermodel Cameron Russell showed up at a recent TED session to talk about girls growing up to become supermodels, I was all set to be angry. And then she surprised us all. Cameron Russell, who has modeled lingerie in televised fashion shows and appeared in campaigns for the likes of Prada and Oscar de la Renta, who has been a model since she was a teenage girl, admitted that she does NOT think girls in America should be following her down the catwalk. Well, glory, glory, hallelujah! I can't agree more. If only it were all that simple.

Why I Trash Some of My Kid's Christmas Presents

I got a text message this week from my daughter's godmother asking if I could give her some ideas for Christmas presents for the kid. I gladly supplied the name of a much-asked for book and her favorite clothing store. If only more people were like her, I'd be more than happy to do the same. It would prevent what I know is to come after Christmas: the annual trashing of the gifts. Not every gift, mind. I only trash the just plain awful stuff given to my kid by the clueless. Take the fake nails for the 7-year-old.

'Teen Mom 2' Recap: Leah and Corey Have Too Many Regrets

We all knew that one day Leah Messer Calvert and Corey Simms would have to stop the breakneck speed that they've been living at since their quickie divorce got rolling. Sadly, that didn't make seeing them break down on the Christmas Eve episode of Teen Mom 2 any easier to watch. Even with Chelsea getting her act in gear, Jenelle moving in with a guy, and Kailyn debating a big move, Leah and Corey's pain still managed to steal the show. The episode started off on a good note; Leah and new boyfriend (now husband in real life) Jeremy Calvert made their relationship official by going to meet the parents. Watching Lee Spears take Jeremy out on the porch for some good old fashioned Daddy advice was adorable. He may be Leah's stepfather, not her biological dad, but he's a keeper, for sure.

More than a few times during my daughter's first year on Earth, I pondered looking up the inventor of the pacifier and writing him (or her!) a letter of thanks. With a daughter whose insatiable need to suck knew no bounds, I didn't think you could find a bigger fan of the sucky on this planet. But then a video of twin baby girls having a pacifier war popped up on the Internet and went viral. More than two million people have been charmed by these sisters grappling for one pink binky, and you're about to see why:

If you're not the biggest fan of the WWE, prepare to be converted. At least, prepare to become a huge fan of wrestler Daniel Bryan. The WWE star found out a 6-year-old who'd been battling cancer since he was 3 wanted nothing more than to meet his favorite wrestler for Christmas. Turns out the guy who tag teams with a guy named Kane as part of Team Hell No is really a big ol' softie. Bryan not only met up with little Connor Michalek, he let the 6-year-old beat him up! You know you want to see it happen:

Hero Cops From Sandy Hook Tragedy Get Christmas Gift They Really Deserve

We've had a lot of talk of heroism in the weeks since the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Hero neighbors. Hero teachers. And now a Christmas gift given to the police officers who responded to the tragic shooting in Newtown, Connecticut reminds us to stop this week and thank the first responders, the quiet heroes who ran into that school building to save lives. Not one single police officer in Newtown had to work on Christmas Day this year. Not one. Of course, the town wasn't left without public safety.

Newspaper Publishes Gun Owners' Names and Addresses Because We Have the Right to Know

It's a unique response to the Sandy Hook shooting, that's for sure. A newspaper in New York State's Hudson Valley decided to publish a map pinpointing the location of every (legal) gun owner in the area. Not surprisingly, the folks at The Journal News have been treated to a giant dose of righteous indignation from some of its readers and right-wing bloggers in the days since. Fortunately, we're not going to add to it.  Ever heard of the freedom of the press? Or the Freedom of Information Act? Considering the conservatives have been on a crusade to remind us of their "right" to bear arms of late, perhaps it's time we explore other portions of the Constitution.

12 Stupidest Things Teenagers Did in 2012

I hate to say it, but sometimes I look at American teenagers, and I'm afraid for the future. Did you catch all of them whining on Twitter this week about the gifts they didn't get for Christmas? Sadly, that's just the tip of the iceberg! Teenagers got up to some seriously crazy shenanigans in 2012. From inhaling bizarre chemicals to get high to faking their own kidnapping, the best thing that can be said about this list is ... thank GOD that's not my kid. Behold:

Condom Dispensers Could Be Coming to a High School Near You

Ready for a twist in the old "should teenagers have access to birth control" debate? Some 22 high schools in Philadelphia will be welcoming students back in the new year with brand new condom dispensers. So is this a matter of schools overstepping their bounds and infringing on parents rights? Or is this just one way the schools fulfill their role in kids' lives? After all, Philadelphia's deputy mayor of health was questioned about the condom dispensers, and he explained that schools are partners with parents in raising kids. Put it that way, and schools giving our kids condoms is really the responsible thing to do, right?

'Teen Mom' Jenelle Evans' Husband Reveals His True (Crazy) Colors in Out-of-Control Rant

Call me naive. Or just call me optimistic. I keep hoping Teen Mom 2 star Jenelle Evans is going to get her act in gear, make some good choices, and straighten out for little Jace. But it's looking like her quickie marriage to "old friend" Courtland Rogers is just another hop back into the same old bucket of crazy she's been fishing in for years. Courtland sounded an awful lot like ghosts of Jenelle's past when he went off on a crazy Twitter rant this week. Remember Gary Head, one-time fiance and infamous Twitter ranter extraordinaire? He's got nothing on Courtland's mess of gay slurs and nasty.

If there's one thing that the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School has done it's open up a discussion about guns in America. And when the LAPD ran a gun buyback this week, something interesting happened. People showed up in droves to get money for their firearms. But it's their stories that stood out. For at least some of the folks turning in their guns to the cops in Los Angeles, there was a fear of being the next Nancy Lanza.

Britney Spears' Paternity Bombshell Isn't Fair to Her Little Boy

Talk about a crazy Christmas. Instead of chilling with her kids around the tree like most parents, celeb mom Britney Spears has been forced to spend the week handling claims from ex-husband Kevin Federline's brother Christopher Federline that he -- not K-Fed -- is the father of 7-year-old son Sean Preston. I don't care if the claims are true or not. Let me just say it right now: poor Sean Preston. It's Christmas time. All this little boy should be thinking about is Angry Birds, LEGOs, Skylanders, or Beyblades ... not who his papa is.

It was a rough year for children in America in 2012. The tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary is freshest on our minds, of course, but this was the year when 672 of the 715 children reported missing to the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children disappeared here in the United States. From baby Ayla Reynolds to Iowa cousins Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins, we have spent countless hours tied to our computer screens willing miracles to happen, for little ones to be reunited with their distraught parents. Wonder what has happened to them? Here's a look at the latest on the cases that made us hug our own little ones closer in 2012:

Kate Middleton and Prince William Don't Need the Queen to Tell Them How to Raise Their Baby

Every time I want to be jealous of Kate Middleton, another shoe drops. Yes, she's married to Hottie McHottypants Prince William. And yes, she is carrying the future prince or princess (come ooooooon princess). But man, oh man, does this girl have it rough. Latest news? Kate and Wills are facing some royally pissed off grandparents over their plans on how to raise the heir to the throne.

'Teen Mom' Kailyn Lowry Hates Her New Look But It's Easier to Fix Than She Thinks

She may have been a Teen Mom, but Kailyn Lowry is officially an adult these days. The mother of little Isaac even hit the big 21 back in August. So why is the MTV star worried that everyone she meets thinks she's 12? Two words: adult braces. Kailyn has joined the growing trend of adults sporting the metal mouth look, and although the recent picture of her new teeth she posted on Instagram looks adorable, she's worried.

'Teen Mom' Jenelle Evans Is Considering Divorce ... Already

So who had "less than a month" in the how long will Jenelle Evans' marriage last bet? Not sure there's much of a prize to be had, but you win ... bragging rights? The Teen Mom 2 star is already talking divorce from Courtland Rogers. You know, the guy she just married after two months of dating? Now for the truly troubling news: Jenelle claims she doesn't care that her marriage is over. Really? Getting married after just two months of dating doesn't point to a deep understanding of what it really means to be hitched, but at least divorce should be taken seriously, right?

Judge Bans Helicopter Parents From Hell From Stalking Their Daughter

A 21-year-old college student named Aubrey Ireland has convinced a court to approve an order of protection against her own parents for "stalking." Helicopter parents, everywhere, consider this your last warning. This could be you in a courtroom saying your mea culpas next! The Irelands had raised a kid responsible enough to get to her senior year at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Not bad, huh? Not good enough for the Irelands apparently. They've spent the years since their daughter actually grew up and became a legal adult doing everything from driving to her school unannounced to accusing her (wrongly of course) of promiscuity.

Adam Lanza's DNA May Help Scientists Explain Sandy Hook Massacre But at What Cost?

Have any thoughts on what should be done with Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza? Maybe you're with most Americans who would like to see him rot in hell? Or maybe you're with the scientists: they want to take Lanza's body into a lab and pick apart his DNA in the hopes that we can finally figure out why some people turn into psychopathic murderers. Hey, it's worth a try, right? Maybe. Then again, is poking around Adam Lanza's DNA after his death really going to help our mental health community?
