Bobby Brown's Newfound Sobriety Is Already Being Tested

Post by Jeanne Sager
The way Bobby Brown is telling it, his decision to leave rehab after just two weeks means nothing when it comes to his sobriety. Whitney Houston's ex-husband made it to his concert last night, just hours after new wife Alicia Etheredge suffered a seizure and had to be rushed to the hospital. He wanted to let the fans know that he's clean and sober after all. Twenty-one days sober that is. Twenty-three if you consider the concert was Saturday. Bobby's also been off drugs -- so he says -- for more than seven years. But is any of this really proof that his rehab "worked?"

Children Stabbed in Their Beds and Scary New Drug May Be to Blame

The stabbing of two sleeping children in Camden, New Jersey is shining a light on a terrifying new drug concoction. Like the bath salts scare of a few months ago, PCP-laced marijuana seems to be turning people violent. And so far, the victims have largely been the most innocent among us: kids, including 6-year-old Dominick Andujor who was stabbed to death in his own bed this weekend. Little Dominick was sleeping in the same house as his older siblings ages 9, 12, and 14, when New Jersey cops say a man named Osvaldo Rivera, who they believe was high on a substance known as "wet" went into his bedroom and stabbed the child. The suspect, known in his neighborhood as Papi, also allegedly slit 12-year-old Amber Andujor's throat before taking off.

Not ready to devote all of Tuesday through Thursday to sitting in front of a television set? Don't worry. Only a Jerk Would Pick on a Kid With Autism

You've probably heard it said that "kids are cruel." And to look at the statistics of autistic teenagers who are bullied, it's true. Nearly half of kids on the spectrum are victims of the mean kids. HALF! It's a statistic that's scary for parents of autistic kids. But if you don't have a kid on the spectrum, you might just glance right over it. And that's exactly the problem. You, me, all the parents of kids who are neurotypical who don't take this whole "autistic kids getting bullied" thing seriously are the problem. Our kids should know better. And if they don't, why the heck not?

Prepare for the gun debate to take a major detour right about ... now. It's headed to Kentucky, where a 92-year-old World War II veteran named Earl Jones lives alone. Jones is now facing a police investigation for allegedly shooting an intruder who'd broken into his home. Cops say they found Lloyd Adam Maxwell, 24, dead outside Jones' home. His pals, Ryan Dalton, 22, and Donnie Inabnit, 20, have been charged with second degree burglary and tampering with evidence for allegedly dragging their buddy's body out of the house. Now they're investigating Earl, who has readily admitted that he aimed right for Maxwell's heart and let off one shot. Set aside everything you've thought about guns up until now. What would you be thinking if Earl Jones was your grandfather?

The shocking death of Green Mile actor Michael Clarke Duncan at just 54 has left long-time girlfriend Omarosa Stallworth in the worst position possible. The woman best known for her turn on reality TV's The Apprentice is grieving the love of her life. But she's doing it from that strange state of purgatory that exists between dating and marriage. TMZ is reporting Omarosa and Michael weren't just dating. They were engaged, with wedding plans set for January.

Stop Teaching My Kid to Hate School

If I had a nickel for every idiot adult who has asked my kid if she's bummed that school is about to start, I'd have enough money to buy a big, fat roll of duct tape to slap across their mouths. Consider this my memo to the world: it's time to stop telling kids that school sucks. Isn't it bad enough that they'll come to that conclusion themselves one day? My daughter starts the second grade this week, and as I write this, she's still a backpack wearing member of the "I love school" team. She has her new shoes picked out, her new lunchbag on the kitchen counter, and after a chance run-in with the elementary art teacher a week ago, she's jazzed about all her teachers. It hasn't been easy.

'Teen Mom' Farrah Abraham and Gary Shirley Fight Keeps the Post-Finale Drama on High

The end of Teen Mom may mean the end of TV drama with Farrah, Amber, Catelynn, and Maci, but that just means it's moved behind the scenes. The stars who have played nice with each other on all those Dr. Drew specials and PSAs over the years are starting to pull the gloves off and let us know how they really feel about each other. It seems Farrah Abraham and Amber Portwood's ex-boyfriend Gary Shirley seem to have a particular distaste for each other. The two have been biting back and forth on Twitter for the past week. Farrah criticized the way she saw Gary treat Amber on the season finale, then she criticized his parenting of little Leah.

Brilliant Parents Bribe Airline Passengers to Put Up With Their Crying Babies

If you've ever pondered the difference between parents who maintain friendships with the child-free and the parents from whom everyone without kids (and sometimes those with) run, it's simple. The parents who still have friends are the ones who recognize that sometimes their kids can be complete and total pains in the ass. Take the couple who recently decided to bribe an entire airplane's worth of passengers with bags of candy so they'd put up with their twin sons' crying. The parents' genius move has gone viral since a photo of the goodie bags was uploaded to Reddit. But what's really remarkable isn't that the parents filled the snack baggies with Jolly Ranchers and Werthers or even their note that lists their seat numbers and offers earplugs to anyone who needs them. It's who uploaded the picture in the first place.

Back to school shopping season is officially over, which means the holidays are coming up on us fast. And you know what that means: you're going to need cash soon. But if you're broke right now, is there really any hope of saving enough money to make the holidays jolly? Here's the short answer: yes. How about the long one? You can save money, if you really want to. It's more or less that simple, because really wanting to save some cash each month should be enough motivation to actually commit to a saving plan. And committing is actually more important than how you save, because there are a ton of good ways to keep the cash from flowing out of your account every month:

Think you perform well under pressure? OK, picture this. You're standing on a train platform with two young boys. A complete stranger comes up, grabs them, and tries to throw the kids in front of an oncoming train. What do you do? If you're the bad@ss New Jersey mom and grandmother who saw that happen to them this week, you tackle the freaky creep to the ground. Then you hold him there until the cops show up. That's right! You don't mess with Jersey! Fist pump!

Biggest Loser's Jillian Michaels Should Leave Fat Kids Alone

Jillian Michaels' hiatus from the show that made her a household name allowed her to fulfill her dream of becoming a mom. So it's no surprise that she's marking her return to The Biggest Loser with a show about kids. What is surprising is that parents are actually letting their kids go on the show. The next season of Loser will be the first ever to focus on the childhood obesity crisis. That means at least three of the contestants are 17 years old or younger. That's right, America, three overweight kids are about to be put out on a national stage for the rest of us to gawk at. As a former fat kid, I'm going to come right out and say it: this might just be the WORST thing you can do to your overweight kid!

Convicted Wife Killer Gets a Sex Change and Guess Who's Paying for It?

Did you hear the one about the transgender prisoner serving a life sentence for murder who wanted a sex change? It looks like he's about to get one, and Massachusetts taxpayers are going to have to foot the bill for the whole shebang. Get ready for the explosion in 3 ... 2 ... What? We're still here? Maybe that's because the reason U.S. District Judge Mark Wolf has ruled that Michelle Kosilek, who was born Robert Kosilek, deserves the controversial surgery makes a whole lot of sense.

'Honey Boo Boo' Family Tries to Accept New Baby's Birth Defect

Think what you will about the Thompson family from Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, but my heart goes out to teen mom Anna right now. The eldest daughter of June Shannon and "Sugar Bear" made the couple grandparents with the birth of baby Kaitlyn. And now it's out that the baby has a birth defect -- she was born with an extra thumb on her right hand. Yes, this is the same little girl who was dosed with a pacifier dipped in Mountain Dew recently, but the two things aren't related. The baby girl had the extra finger at birth. And from the way the family is talking, that thumb is there to stay.

Farting Doll Is Gross, But So Is Your Kid (VIDEO)

When I saw that there was a farting baby doll, I could guess what was coming next: a bunch of humorless pearl clutchers ragging on about how this represents the downfall of society and more. And of course, it happened. In the commentary on various sites that mention Kong Suni, the doll with a flatulence problem, there are protests from parents who think it's gross, who think it's a "bad influence" on children. It's true, the doll that lets a loud flarp from her behind when you press her tummy is gross. But the last time I checked, so are most kids.

Breastfeeding Mom of 3 Donates Her Milk to NICU Babies

You've heard the stories. Baby in NICU still getting breast milk thanks to incredible donor moms! Gay celebrity dads recognize breast is best and turn to breast milk bank! They're the sort of feel good tales that make you feel like the village really is pulling together to raise our kids. And yet, I've always wondered: who is actually donating all that breast milk? Most of the breastfeeding moms I've known over the years were having a hard enough time trying to juggle everything it takes to keep their own family going. Donating their milk might sound good in the abstract, but actually doing it sounded near impossible. Ladies, I have found a mom who is about to prove you all wrong. Not only is Kentrina Kimball donating her milk, but she's juggling a pretty hefty set of complications at the same time.

Tom Brokaw's Sudden Hospitalization Gives Us One Heckuva Scare

What a day it's been for Tom Brokaw! One of the most beloved news anchors of our time, Brokaw was rushed to a hospital in Charlotte, straight from the set of Morning Joe where he'd been taping but told people he was feeling "light-headed." The good news is the former face -- and voice -- of NBC Nightly News is doing OK. The 72-year-old has already been on Twitter, reporting on his own condition from the hospital. Of course he was!

Obama's Teen Volunteers Don't Deserve Special Treatment at His DNC Speech

The organizers of the DNC Convention had to know that moving President Barack Obama's speech from the 73,000-seat Bank of America Stadium to a venue that's less than half the size was going to force a lot of people to watch him accept the nomination on a TV screen instead of up close and personal. But they probably didn't know that some of the people who won't make the cut are teenage volunteers, young motivated Democrats-to-be who spent hours and hours this summer stumping for the campaign only to be left out in the cold at the DNC. Cue spoiled American teenager response in 3 ... 2 ... 1 .... I WANT to feel bad for 16-year-old Madeline Frank and her brother Koby, 14. The kids spent 18 hours knocking on doors for the campaign with the expectation that they'd get to see the President of the United States speak. Their parents should be proud of their kids for getting involved in the political process. But do they really deserve a trip to the White House for this?

'Glee' Star Amber Riley's 'Star Spangled Banner' Is Everything a National Anthem Should Be (VIDEO)

Did you hear Amber Riley perform the "Star Spangled Banner" at the DNC the other night? The Glee star gave us pretty much everything a performance of the national anthem should have. It was haunting. Respectful. Flawless. Do we really have to wait one more week until the Glee season four premiere to hear more out of her? I probably shouldn't admit the following, but what the heck. I've been watching the DNC with mixed feelings. I love seeing democracy in action, but there's that part of me that can't wait to see fall TV really get back into the swing of things. But we certainly got the perfect balance of the two out of Amber Riley, didn't we?

Schools Are Making Our Kids Fat and Sick

I was dreading sending my daughter off for her first day of school for all the usual reasons and then one you may not have on your mind. Or maybe you do? Do you feel like school is making our kids increasingly unhealthy? I say this after having seen on the news just last night that an overcrowded school in the New York City area has turned to giving kids "school brunch" instead of school lunch. It's the nice way of saying that these middle school kids are being forced to eat their lunch at the bizarre hour of 9:45 a.m.
