Honey Boo Boo’s Mom Doesn’t Care What We Think But She Should

Here Comes Honey Boo Boo is just a few weeks old, and already the TLC reality show has become a cult classic of sorts. Americans are delighting in the feelings of superiority that well up on Wednesday nights as they watch 6-year-old Alana Thompson (aka Honey Boo Boo), her mom June Shannon, and the rest of the family welcome a pig into their home and throw themselves headfirst into all sorts of reindeer -- and redneck -- games. Shannon is the family's matriarch, a mother of four who gave birth to her first child at 15 and is set to become a grandmother at 32. The math alone might make one question her parenting skills. But the problems in the Thompson family run much deeper than a few teen pregnancies.

Cops Want to Put Guns in High Schools -- What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

I have said more than a few times that you couldn't pay me to go back to high school. And yet, there's one thing I do miss. I was in high school before the words "school shooting" were part of the national vernacular. I was in high school before terrified police officers were developing crazy ideas like stashing their guns at the local school just in case. I mean really, folks, what could go wrong here? Anyone? Bueller?

Teen Girl's Sex Abuser Has Some Nerve Saying She 'Ruined His Life'

How's this for bizarre? A lawyer actually expects sympathy for a client who confessed to felony sexual abuse. What's more, David Meija is blaming Savannah Dietrich, the then 16-year-old girl who was attacked and sexually abused by two boys, for "ruining" the low-life's life. In a week when we've heard a Congressman refer some rapes as "legitimate," I suppose we shouldn't be surprised. And yet, I wonder if David Meija has been spending so much time around criminals that he is actually starting to think like them.

First there was the pregnant man. Now there is a breastfeeding man. Well, sort of. Trevor MacDonald is transgender. He transition to male at 27 with breast tissue removal surgery and the help of testosterone. But still, MacDonald was born a woman, and thus the father was able to give birth to his son. Now, if there's ever a case for giving a parent a break on the use of formula, you would think it would be this one. But against all odds, MacDonald has done it!

If you've never understood the appeal of shows like American Pickers or Antiques Road Show, maybe this will change your mind. A homeowner in Tennessee was rummaging through boxes in his attic recently, and he came across one of the greatest historical finds of this century. An old unreleased recording of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was just sitting there gathering dust. If Stephon Tull goes through with plans to sell the reel-to-reel interview taped by his late father, he could rake in some serious cash. But before you run off to paw through boxes in your attic for something good, hold up! Tull realizes how important Dr. King's words are to history, and he's shared the audio!

'Teen Mom' Amber Portwood Can't Keep Gary Shirley From Moving On

Teen Mom is now in the home stretch, headed in for the season -- and show -- finale. And with every episode, I just feel sorrier and sorrier for Amber Portwood's ex-boyfriend Gary Shirley. Here the guy is essentially a single dad, and when she does bother to make time to see her daughter, she screams and curses at him. So it should be good news for Gary that Amber is now a guest of the Indiana Department of Corrections, right? He's got custody of Leah (a move we're expected to see in the Teen Mom finale), and he can do whatever he darn well pleases -- both as a dad and a single dude. Well, in theory he can ... in reality ...

Remember Karen Klein, the bus monitor who moved our hearts earlier this year when she was caught on camera crying as a bunch of nasty middle schoolers bullied her? She's baaaaack. And Klein has some big news for America: she's not going to take it anymore (and you shouldn't either). Klein is now retired thanks to an online fundraiser that raked in half a million dollars from thousands of people who were outraged at the way she was being treated. But instead of resting on her laurels -- which would be completely deserved for this 68-year-old grandmother -- the viral video "star" has decided to put a chunk of change into a new foundation that proves just how right we were to invest in her in the first place.

Think your kids are clear on the rules about when to get naked and when to keep their clothes on? You might want to run through a refresher course. A cheerleading coach in Georgia has just resigned from her job after allegations surfaced that she made members of the squad strip during a team sleepover. I can see why parents are upset. I'd be pretty embarrassed if that was my kid too.

'Teen Mom' Jenelle Evans Has No Business Slamming Her Sister's Parenting Skills (VIDEO)

Think it's hard being one of the stars of MTV's Teen Mom? Try being related to them and having your worst parenting moments outed to the entire world without your consent. Troubled star Jenelle Evans did that to sister Ashley this week, but just how "bad" this parenting moment was is still up for debate. Warning, before I share the video that Jenelle claims is her sister dealing with baby Gabriel crying, it's not going to be easy to watch. There is foul language and a mom who yells at her own child. But bear with it, and remember: Ashley didn't sign up for her notorious sister to out her as a "psycho" parent to the world:

Angelina Jolie has her hands full with that big brood of kids of hers. She's got little Vivienne Jolie-Pitt acting in movies these days, and of course there's a certain wedding that's on her mind. But to hear dad Jon Voight talk, this celebrity mama knows there's nothing more important for your kids than getting as much love as possible. Angie famously ended her even more famous feud with her dad a few years ago -- after she started building her own family. But what that really means for her kids came out just the other day when Voight showed up on Entertainment Tonight.

Mom Shouldn't Face Charges for Protecting Son From Alleged Predator

Question: when is it OK for a parent to involve her child in illegal activities? Possible answer: when that parent is a mother trying to protect her son from a father who is accused of raping him. That's why a mom named Georgia Dunn says she took off as a fugitive from justice with her 9-year-old son in tow. And she's not the only one. The boy's pediatrician first alleged the boy was being abused by his dad back in 2008, and an 11-person state investigative team backed him up. But Circuit Court Judge Ross Hicks decided the proper course of action back then was to yank Dunn's custody and give it to ex-husband William Cone. That would be hard enough for any mom, but let's fast forward to 2012.

Mass Murderer Anders Breivik's Insanely Short Prison 'Sentence' Puts No Value on Life (VIDEO)

The five-judge panel in the Norway court that convicted mass killer Anders Behring Breivik could have dropped a bomb and had less of an impact. The man who killed 77 people, most of them children, in 2011 will face punishment for his crimes. But the sentence is so short it's more slap in the face than justice for the families mourning their loved ones. Breivik was sentenced to 21 years in prison by the judges who declared he was sane enough to be punished for the massacre at a camp in Utoya last summer. No, I didn't forget a 0, although reading the news reports this morning, I thought reporters had. That's when I started doing the math and realized exactly what this sentence represents.

After a long, hard week that consisted of mass murderers getting off with insanely short prison sentences and moms trying to justify why they killed their kids, I know I could use a pick-me-up. You too? Well, did you hear about the Boston-area mom who accidentally walked off a subway platform with her 4-year-old? They were both rescued, in the nick of time, by good Samaritans. And it was all caught on MBTA video so we can celebrate it!

So, have you heard about Teen Mom 2 star Jenelle Evans' porn scandal yet? If you have, there's just one person to thank! The one and only Jenelle Evans herself. You read that right. She's not just the one denying the rumor. The MTV star actually got it going!

5 Bibs Too Bizarre for Babies

We have seen some pretty creepy things designed for babies lately. Case in point: Fifty Shades of Grey onesies anyone? But just when I was thinking the bizarre things people think are appropriate for baby to wear out on the town were the worst it could get, it got worse. Introducing the seriously disturbing ... baby bibs! Apparently moms and dads have decided it is not enough to emblazon curse words on the clothes their little cuties wear when they are out and about.

Breastfeeding Mom Can't Pump at Work Because It's 'Disgusting'

A breastfeeding mom who works as a restaurant server recently worked her shift with breast milk leaking all over the front of her shirt. If you're thinking she should have just pumped, so did she. But Kristen Joseph says a manager told her that was too "disgusting" to do in an establishment where people eat. Pop quiz time, folks! You're about to eat in a restaurant. Which would you prefer: A) A mom is pumping her breast milk in the manager's office, far away from prying eyes, where you don't even know about it, or B) Your server is standing in front of you, and her shirt is soaking wet, right around the breast area. What? You said B?

6-Year-Old With Schizophrenia Can't Be as Hopeless as It Sounds

If the news that a 6-year-old girl was diagnosed with schizophrenia took you by surprise, join the club. January Schofield, known to her family as Jani, is something of an anomaly. Pediatric cases of schizophrenia are exceedingly rare, which has fueled the national frenzy over her case this month. At least, that's part of why people are paying attention to a new memoir by January's dad, Michael Schofield. But beyond the rubberneckers and the looky-loos, I'd wager at least a portion of the parents drawn to January's story are hoping this marks a change. I know I am.

Taylor Swift Has No Business Eloping With Conor Kennedy

Conor Kennedy might just be the hero of teenage boys everywhere right now, but he's not exactly making their moms swoon. The 18-year-old grandson of Robert F. Kennedy is dating Taylor Swift, of course, and now rumor has it the young lovebirds are flirting with eloping. Let's get this straight. Conor is 18. Taylor is 22. And they're already (allegedly) talking marriage? How has his famous father not locked this young man up and thrown away the key?

'Teen Mom' Jenelle Evans Gets Her 567th Chance: Will She Blow It?

While Teen Mom is set to end with tonight's finale, it looks like big things are just starting for Jenelle Evans, star of the show's first spin-off. The Teen Mom 2 star went to court yesterday and managed to shed some of the biggest charges against her. Turns out Jenelle won't have to face punishment for assault or the three drug charges against her. They've all been dismissed. She's getting a second (or is it third or fourth by now?) chance! So, does this mean easy sailing for Jenelle Evans from here on out? Is it naive to cross our fingers and say, "Yes! Jenelle's our girl, if she can't do it no one can!?"

School Ban on Cartwheels and Handstands Takes Fun Out of Recess

Bumps and bruises. Cuts and scrapes. I've always thought they were like a road map of childhood, up and down our kids' legs and across their arms. But then I hear about schools like the one that's banned kids from doing any sort of somersault, handstand, or cartwheel during recess. They're trying to keep kids from getting hurt. But who says "getting hurt" is the worst thing that is going to happen to our kids?
