Teens Are Having Less Sex But That's Not Exactly Good News

Moms and Dads, I'll give you the good news first. The number of number of kids who are having vaginal intercourse is on the way down. It seems more teens these days prefer oral sex (although there are fewer doing that than their used to be!!). Happy? Not so fast. You may not be a grandparent anytime soon because oral sex is still winning out over bumping pelvises for the teen crowd, but we've got a whole other problem on our hands. Kids are getting cocky (absolutely no pun intended ... well, maybe ...), and they're not using protection when they go downtown. And guess what that means?

Drunk Driver Kills Dad, Hospitalizes Kids and Mom Gets Fired for Taking Too Much Time Off

Tell me if any of this makes sense to you. Melissa Bartley's husband and two young sons were in a car accident in March. A drunk driver took firefighter husband Ben Demond's life and put their two kids in the hospital. But when Melissa tried to get short-term disability so she could afford to stay at her kids' bedside, the insurance company said no. Then her company let her go in June. It's 2012, and this is the system we have built in America. Corporations watch the bottom line, and people get screwed. We have left a mom with nowhere to turn but to the good hearts of people in her community who are trying to fundraise their rear ends off to enable her to be with the children who need her.

Considering the amount of time we devote to trying to get our babies to talk to us, is it any wonder onesies with funny sayings on them are so darn popular? We are aching for these little balls of cuteness to say SOMETHING, ANYTHING to us. Unfortunately there's a glut of inappropriate and just plain creepy onesies out there that we have to contend with. Picking through all of those to find something that's sincerely cute and worthy of your little bundle of joy can take forever. So we decided to give you a break. The Stir picked through all the awful outfits out there for you to find the good ones!

4 Reasons to Be Scared if Your Husband’s Reading '50 Shades of Grey'

When my husband told me he wanted to read Fifty Shades of Grey, I must have shot him a funny look because he started to get defensive. "What!? Everyone else has read it!" he told me. Fair enough. I read all three books in E.L. James' erotic trilogy during our family vacation to Georgia in April. Now they're just sitting in the Nook app on my iPad waiting for me to call them up for reference for an article. It's not like he'd be interrupting me or anything. And yet ...

Back to school time is always a tough one for parents. But back to school time comes with a whole different set of issues for parents of a child with autism. And when your autistic child is starting a new school -- say making the transition to middle school -- you have a whole new world to navigate. Fear not brave parent! The Stir talked with two moms who have been there, done that, and survived! Jean Winegardner and Shannon Rosa are well known in the blogosphere for talking about their children on the spectrum -- you may know them better as Stimey from Stimeyland and Squid Rosenberg from Squidalicious -- and they shared their tips on getting autistic children ready for school:

Pushy College Sports Recruiters Are Now Coming After Our Middle-Schoolers

In this economy, you can't fault a parent for hearing the word "scholarship" and jumping. Colleges aren't getting any cheaper! But what if the scholarship was being offered to your 14-year-old? And it wasn't "just" a scholarship ... it came with a recruitment letter to play a college sport. Would you still want it? Welcome to the new world of athletic recruitment. They can't get an official letter of intent out of our kids until they're seniors, but they're gunning for our middle schoolers. Just last month two -- count 'em two -- 14-year-olds were approached by major universities to play football.

Kids With Siblings Are Just as Lonely as Only Children (VIDEO)

How many times have you looked at the Mom or Dad of an only child and told them, "Oh, she must be lonely"? Come on, admit it. I'm one and done over here, and I know I've heard it enough times! But as I watched the latest episode of Mya and Her Moms this week, I wanted to stand up and start punching my fist in the air. Only child Mya was having a playdate with a little girl who has three siblings. One of the things the girls have in common? They're both a little lonely. Got that y'all? Loneliness is not an only child problem!

An entire family is dead, and police in two states have a mystery on their hands with clues that point toward a murder/suicide with a father to blame. Cops in Indiana say Michael Vanderlinden was driving the wrong way down the highway when he caused a head-on collision. But when cops in Michigan went to Vanderlinden's home to tell his wife, Linda, that he'd died in the crash, they found her, and the couple's two young children, dead. Right now cops say they suspect Michael killed Linda and their two sons then committed suicide on the highway in Indiana -- although that is still just a suspicion. Either way, that means there are a total of five people gone -- including poor Juan Nelson, the man whose car was hit by Michael Vanderlinden. And for what?

Teacher Accused of Sex With Students Doesn't Deserve 20 Years in Prison

Before we dive into the story of 28-year-old teacher Brittni Colleps and the five students she's accused of having sex with, a disclaimer is in order. Any time a teacher takes advantage of a student, she (or he) deserves to be punished. It's an unconscionable betrayal of trust. And yet, there's a lot wrong with the way Colleps is being treated right now. The former English teacher (yes, she lost her job over the allegations) at a Texas high school allegedly had sex with five different students in her home over the course of two months. All the kids were over 18. But now Colleps could spend 20 years in prison.

'50 Shades of Grey' Baby Onesies Are 50 Shades of Creepy

It's happening. The Fifty Shades of Grey baby boom we here at The Stir predicted months ago is very much a "thing." Moms are announcing right and left that Christian Grey got them pregnant (with a little help from a real live man). But ladies, some of y'all seem to be taking this obsession just a wee bit too far. Can we just talk about the Fifty Shades baby paraphernalia? It's here. And it's kind of creepy!

5 Homework Habits That Will Make Your Kid a Superstar at School

Are you excited as I am about putting the kid on a bus and sending them back to school? Sorry to burst your bubble, but there's one little monster waiting in that closet ready to jump out and scream Ooga Booga and scare the heck out of us. I'm talking about homework, people! Oh how we dread the inevitable fight with a kid who is really glad to be done with the school day and really not looking forward to settling down to do worksheets and spelling lists. But what if it didn't have to be a fight? What if there was a perfect way to get the homework done so they'll be a superstar in school?

'Teen Mom' Jenelle Evans and Boyfriend Kieffer Delp Need to Keep Their Clothes On

Another day. Another Jenelle Evans nude photo scandal. It looks like the Teen Mom 2 star's blase attitude about letting boyfriend Kieffer Delp post photos of her naked to Twitter is biting her in the butt big time. Former boss (and reported ex-boyfriend) James Duffy spent the weekend tweeting photos of Jenelle ... and threatening once again to expose photos of the MTV star in rather delicate positions. Only this time he didn't stop at threats.

High School's Cursing Valedictorian Deserves Her Diploma

It may be the worst case of refusing to let kids grow up that I've heard in awhile. A high school in Oklahoma is refusing to give the valedictorian of the Class of 2012 her diploma because she use a bad word during her graduation speech way back in May. That bad word, by the way, was "hell." Apparently Kaitlin Nootbaar had originally handed in a speech with the word "heck" in it, only to use the quasi-curse word when she was actually talking to the crowd about choosing a career path. Well, you know what I think of that?

Mom Charged With Killing 8-Year-Old Son Says It Was a Mercy Killing

When Jude, an 8-year-old boy with special needs, was found in a hotel room in February, foaming at the mouth after apparently ingesting a fatal dose of pills, cops said his mother was responsible for the child's death. Now Gigi Jordan is admitting it. The wealthy Manhattan mom told the Daily News in a lengthy exclusive that she killed her own child, but she wants the world to forgive her ... because it was a "mercy killing." I know. You're thinking what I thought. How is killing an 8-year-old boy merciful? Was he dying of some horrific disease or something?

'Mom-Friendly' Library Kindly Banishes Breastfeeding Mom to Nursing Room

You'd think a place that has its own "nursing room" for moms would be a pretty chill place to hang with your baby, wouldn't you? I'm betting the North Carolina mom who was breastfeeding her 2-month-old in the public library computer lab thought so. At least until an employee tried to banish her there. Kelle Perkins had her son inside her shirt so he could eat while she finished her work on the computer at the local library. But when patrons complain, she said a library employee told her she'd have to move to the nursing room if she wanted to continue breastfeeding. Say what?

I never would have taken Kid Rock for the sweet and mushy type, but the Detroit rapper has thrown himself into charity work these days. And his latest feat should make every homeowner in America a little more grateful to be where they are. Kid was hiding out in a Michigan model home the other day waiting to surprise wounded veteran Davin Dumar and his wife Dana with the news that they're getting a new home of their very own! Davin, an Army sergeant who lost the lower half of his leg in Afghanistan, just got out of a military hospital on Friday. He and Dana are trying to get up and running again after the IED that took his leg blew their lives apart. Part of that was applying to Operation Finally Home, a charity that builds houses for wounded veterans.

A grieving husband in Alabama has been told he needs to dig up his dead wife and move her body to a new burial place. But James Davis says likes having Patsy Ruth in their front yard. Can you really blame him? He can visit her every day and change out the flowers on her grave. Not to mention the front yard of their home was where Patsy Ruth Davis said she wanted to be buried, close to the man she loved and the house he built them 30 years ago.

It's About Time Katie Holmes Let Suri Act Her Age (PHOTO)

I'll say this for Katie Holmes. Now that her divorce from Tom Cruise is final, the celebrity mom is working overtime to give daughter Suri Cruise the normal childhood she has been missing for the past six years. Does it really get any more normal than riding your bike? With training wheels? But that's exactly what Suri was up to over the weekend with her mom. And get this, she was wearing a helmet! And she had her teddy bear in the bike's basket. Gasp.

Feeling down about the state of the human race? Join the club. It's an election year after all! But the Virginia auto repair shop that fixed a gay college student's car after bullies had vandalized it could be just the boost you need to restore your faith in humanity. Unfortunately, you're going to have to take one more hit before we tell you the good part. It turns out Jordan Addison's ride was hit by vandals four times over between March and May. The Radford University student found a number of gay slurs keyed into the paint, but he couldn't hide them, and he didn't have the money for repairs.

School Giving Condoms to 12-Year-Olds Is on Board With Abstinence Too

Could we finally have a happy middle ground for the parents who believe in sex education for teenagers and the parents who don't to meet on? A Massachusetts high school thinks they've got the key. They want to hand out condoms to kids as young as 12. But wait! There's more! Parents of students in Springfield will get a letter allowing them to opt out of the program. And just in case the letters don't make it home, the school will be calling Moms and Dads too. I think we have a winner here, folks!
