Mom Who Killed Baby 8 Years Ago Shouldn't Be Fired From Current Job

Eight years ago, a woman named Dena Schlosser killed her baby daughter during what has been called a religious frenzy. Declared insane by the courts, she was sent to a mental institution in 2006. Since June, she's been working at a Texas Wal-Mart. That is until the public got her fired. Because nothing sounds safer than having a woman recently released from a court-ordered mental institution than having her swinging in the breeze with no job, right? I have to wonder if the people in Terell, Texas thought any of this through.

Lego Gets Stuck in Boy's Nose -- For 3 Years!

For the longest time, I had an insane fear that one day my daughter was going to get something stuck up her nose. You don't have to tell me how crazy it sounds. I get it. But I'm betting 6-year-old Isaak Lasson's mom would think I sound perfectly balanced. Her son just had a LEGO removed from his nose ... three years after it got lodged up there. Ahem, still think I'm nutty?

Moms Desperate to Breastfeed Are Popping Pills With Serious Side Effects

When is breastfeeding just not worth it? If you'd asked me that question before I gave birth to my daughter, I'd have looked at you like you had two heads. "Breastfeeding," I'd have said, "is always worth it." But here I am seven years postpartum, and as I sat reading the dangerous side effects of the pills moms are taking to try to increase their milk production just so they can breastfeed their babies, my thoughts were quite the opposite. When breastfeeding is bad for your health, Mom, it's not worth it.

'Teen Mom' Recap: Farrah's Sacrifice Is Best for Her Daughter in the Long Run

Every episode of the fourth season of Teen Mom puts us closer to the end for the four girls who started it all. And tonight's episode came the closest yet to painting a picture of what decisions Farrah, Maci, Amber, and Catelynn have to make to ensure success after the cameras leave them forever. First up, there's Amber Portwood. Sadly we know what will happen to her -- she'll go to prison for the next five years. And yet, watching her admit she's been too lazy to sign up for her out-patient rehab program, it's hard not to want to reach through the TV screen and shake her. If onlys won't save her, but if only she'd made the right choices then, she wouldn't be where she is now. The good news is her co-stars are moving toward a better fate.

Dad Disowns Son for Being Gay

The handwritten letter scanned in and uploaded to the web that's gone viral may be one of the hardest you'll ever read. In it, a father cuts himself off entirely from his gay son. He disowns his own flesh and blood, ostensibly because he refuses to come to terms with the fact that his child is gay. We don't know if the letter's legit (it comes from a Reddit user), but it's a jarring example of something that happens. A lot. And not just to gay kids. Kids who turn away from a parent's religion. Kids who opt out on college. Kids who turn to drugs. Good kids. "Bad" kids. They're disowned by their parents. You could say it's a statement about the state of "kids today." I disagree.

One of these days, the Westboro Baptist Church is going to find something better to do with its time than protest funerals and harass the grieving. Unfortunately, today isn't looking like that day. But they better prepare themselves for the Human Shield that will wrap itself around the funeral of a fallen Marine on Saturday. More than 2,600 people have already pledged their support for the family of Gunnery Sgt. Daniel Price who died July 29 during combat in Afghanistan. A giant mass of humanity will stand between the group that spews hate and the people who head to the church in Holland, Michigan to say goodbye to a man who made the greatest sacrifice for our country.

8 Bizarre Baby Products No Sane Mom Would Buy

When it was time to register for my baby shower, my husband and I were completely overwhelmed. There is just so much stuff out there for babies. Which wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for all the useless, crude, and just plain bizarre stuff out there. The creepy and inappropriate onesies they expect parents to put on their kids are bad enough. The clothing that's more expensive than anything I would even put on myself is easy enough to ignore. But I'm talking the flat out weird products that make you wonder: do these people actually have kids?

When I heard a woman was caught trying to walk out of a California hospital with a newborn baby in a tote bag, my stomach clenched. Who steals a baby? Well, now we know. Police say Grisel Ramirez put on a pair of scrubs and managed to get all the way into the maternity ward at Garden Grove Hospital, plus get her hands on a baby. As for why, the cops say Grisel had convinced her husband that she was pregnant. Aha. It's all making sense now, isn't it?

Play Center's Ban on Men Treats Dads Like Perverts

You wouldn't know it to look at them, but men have it really rough these days. Every time they want to hang out around children, someone looks at them like they're a bunch of perverts. Take the play center in England that has declared itself a woman-only zone. They've even barred all boys over the age of 9. What is this, The Little Rascals? Do they have a He-Woman Man Haters sign for the place?

Pediatrician Accused of Waterboarding His 11-Year-Old While Mom Watched

I thought when President Barack Obama signed the ban on waterboarding, it sent a pretty clear message. Taking an immobilized victim to the brink of drowning is torture, plain and simple. But a couple of parents in Delaware seem to either disagree or just don't care. Dr. Melvin Morse and his wife Pauline Morse are facing charges for allegedly waterboarding -- get this -- their own daughter. And by daughter, I mean a child who is just 11 years old (they also have a 5-year-old who seems to have escaped the punishment).

‘Teen Mom’ Farrah Abraham’s Fame Is Ruining Her Love Life

Think it's easy being famous? Farrah Abraham begs to differ. The star of MTV's Teen Mom was sold out to the tabloids this week by a woman she barely knew, and now the whole world is debating her love life. Oh yeah, and she can't seem to find a guy who doesn't want to be around her just to ride on her famous coattails. The latest episodes of the reality series have shown the single mom jumping into a relationship with a guy named Daniel, planning an overnight out-of-state trip with him on the most recent Teen Mom episode after what seems like just one or two dates. Farrah has drawn criticism for moving too fast, but you can hold your complaints.

Can we talk about how hard it is to feel safe in America anymore? We have lunatics shooting up movie theaters. We have crazy people shooting up temples. And now we have a Detroit area grandpa who was shot dead at his own house because he came to the aid of his grandchildren. From the way the cops tell it, John Villneff was minding his own business when several of his grandchildren came rushing over from his daughter's house next door. Now he's dead because he took the bullets aimed at his 12-year-old granddaughter.

Jennifer Garner Admits She's a Helicopter Parent

If you asked for the short list of celebrity moms who I would want to hang with, Jennifer Garner would be right near the top. Maybe it's because we have daughters who are just about the same age. Or maybe it's because she seems so refreshingly normal coming out of crazy Hollywood. So I was kind of surprised to hear the star who plays a mom in the new family flick The Odd Life of Timothy Green admit she doesn't parent like her parents. They did such a good job with her, I had to wonder: why not?

Teens Watch Friend Die Because They're Afraid of Getting Caught Drinking

It's an all-too-familiar story. Teenager gets some freedom. Teenager gets drunk. Teenager dies from alcohol poisoning while his helpless friends watch. This is what happens when we make kids so scared of getting caught with alcohol that they’re terrified to calls us when something goes wrong. This is what Brett Finbloom's family is living with today. They were supposed to be saying goodbye as he left for college. Instead they're saying goodbye forever. And it all could have been prevented with just one phone call ... if only the teenagers in that room weren't terrified that they were going to get in trouble. Parents! If this isn't a sign that we need to change the whole discussion about alcohol, I don't know what is.

'Teen Mom' Maci Bookout Needs to Put Down '50 Shades of Grey' and Pay Attention to Kyle

The Fifty Shades of Grey craze has been getting a lot of credit for recharging the sex lives of American couples. But Teen Mom star Kyle King has a decidedly different take on E.L. James' trilogy. The boyfriend of popular reality star Maci Bookout says the erotic novels, and particularly main character Christian Grey, have "mentally stolen his woman." Aww! Poor Kyle! He just finally got his girlfriend back after a long break-up, and now he has to compete with a guy who doesn't even exist. Welcome to the club, my friend!

If you'd had two (count 'em, two) nude photo scandals in the past year, how comfy would you be with letting a guy take photos of you naked? Oh, what, not at all? So you'll understand the major eye roll at Teen Mom 2 star Jenelle Evans' latest bit of ridiculousness. The MTV reality star didn't just let boyfriend Kieffer Delp take a photo of her without her clothes on. She actually went on Twitter to let everyone know that she approved of him Tweeting the picture of him with his hand cupping her nekkid hiney.

Young Girls Offered as Prostitutes and Their Own Parents Are Charged

If you've ever watched Hoarders and wondered "how could someone subject another human being to living in such filth," I'm here to tell you it could be worse. MUCH worse. A couple of Miami parents (a word I'll be using very loosely in this here piece) were arrested this week for not only allegedly forcing their four kids to live in a complete pigsty, but also allegedly prostituting out their young daughters. Gabriel de Jesus Orellana and Renee Marie Garcia have four kids between the ages of 7 and 13 -- two boys and two girls. And cops say both girls have been offered up to men in the past.

No mom ever thinks she will be the one who leaves her baby in a hot car all day. But we have another sad and tragic story today out of Nashville, Tennessee, where a 5-month-old baby boy died in the back of his mom's minivan. It will break your heart, Moms and Dads, but keep reading. There's a lesson in here that could save your baby's life. Police say Stephanie Gray arrived at her son's daycare on Tuesday afternoon to pick him up. Only little Joel wasn't there because he'd never been dropped off.

Protecting Kids From the F-Word Is Absolutely and^%$#@! Ridiculous

I've got a question for your parents: would you rather your kid learned a euphemism for the f-word or read about rape and murder? Go ahead, I'll give you a few seconds. It shouldn't take long. In the meantime, you might want to steer clear of the New York Times. In a disagreement with website STFU Parents this week, the Grey Lady, she who has long proclaimed herself the place to find "all the news that's fit to print" has revealed its decision that it's not "fitting" to print even the vaguest references to curse words lest they "offend" the venerable newspaper's "younger readers."

Sex Questions From Kids Are Hilarious, But Scary

The Sex Questions From Seventh Graders Tumblr that went viral before being yanked from the web was full of some of the most off-the-wall questions about human anatomy I think I've heard in a long time. Come to think of it, I haven't heard any of this since, well, middle school. They're downright hilarious. But they're also downright terrifying!
