It seems like cupcakes have taken over the world as "best dessert ever." But just when I want to agree, along comes summer, the one time of year when all I want to eat is ice cream. Soft serve. Right outta the pint. Popsicles. Whatever, whenever, wherever. But I've finally found the perfect way to stop this inner battle doing the rumba in my tummy. Ice cream cupcakes! They are the best of both worlds! Cake-y deliciousness on the bottom, cold and creamy ice cream on the top, and heaven all around. The flavor possibilities are endless, but it all starts with a recipe. Good thing we have it right here!

The New York City school district may be the largest public school system in the US, but it could be forced to pay tuition for a 12-year-old bullying victim to go to private school. Confused? The girl's family says the public school did nothing to protect their child from relentless torture at the hands of bullies, and a judge agrees.  I'm thinking this could be the best news we've gotten since bullying became the hot topic in education. Wait, let me be clear. It's bad news for school districts, but it's flat out awesome news for parents and kids.

If you've been following the case of missing sisters Ashley Key and Britny Haarup, you probably found yourself hoping for something unusual. I was hoping their family was wrong. I was hoping that Britny Haarup up and left her two infants alone in their Missouri home on purpose. As awful as that sounds, it would have been better than what may have really happened to these young women. Police in Missouri now say that they have found two bodies in a rural field. Although they haven't specifically said the bodies are those of Britny Haarup, who was just 19, and her 22-year-old sister, according to all the media reports, the sisters are likely dead.

It's never a good sign for society when a breastfeeding mom is told she has to stop nursing in public because some prude has their panties in a twist. But this one may be the worst yet. A Colorado mom was breastfeeding her 10-month-old son in the kiddie pool at a water park, and other parents wanted her to cover up or get out. Let me get this straight. A nursing mom can't get some respect at a facility built specifically for parents and their kids. Is it any wonder they're getting picked on out at the courthouse or in the mall?

The Teen Mom rumor mill has just gone from scandalous to downright scary. Kailyn Lowry has been accused by ex-boyfriend Jo Rivera of smoking pot while she was pregnant with son Isaac. This is not just some ooh, hehe, haha, what will these reality stars think up next kind of scandal. Smoking marijuana while pregnant has been linked to some pretty hardcore problems for the child, from mental to behavioral defects. If there's even a shred of truth to the allegations, Lowry could sink below even trouble co-star Jenelle Evans (who has her own post-pregnancy pot problems) on the bad mom scale.

Today marks day four of the search for missing Iowa girls Lyric Cook Morrissey and Elizabeth Collins. The cousins, ages 10 and 8, were supposed to be on a bike ride when they went missing on Friday, and no one has seen them since. So why hasn't an Amber Alert been issued? Well, because their case doesn't fit the "profile." Cops in Evansdale, Iowa say they don't have a car or person associated with Lyric and Elizabeth's disappearance. So they can't put their information out in the form of an Amber Alert.

You would think the self-confidence came before the pink hair dye. But it's been the opposite. Before I went Katy Perry pink, I was having the kind of summer that makes me dread what used to be my favorite season. My thighs are feeling especially cottage cheesy in my shorts. My forehead especially acne-ridden from the sweat. Do I really need to keep going here? Basically I felt like everywhere I went, there was an announcer with a bullhorn yelling, "Come one, come all to gawk at the woman who desperately needs to hit the gym and get fit!" And in the middle of all of it, I decided to add pink hair dye so my head would scream "look at me, look at me!"

The hits just keep coming for poor Tameka Foster and Usher Raymond. The R&B superstar's stepson, Kyle Glover, was declared brain dead earlier this month after a jet-skiing accident. Now it looks like he'll be taken off life support, and his mom won't be able to do anything to stop it. Foster's health insurance reportedly delivered the news that they will stop paying for the 11-year-old's care as early as next month. Without insurance, Foster, who has several other children to care for, including two kids with ex-husband Usher, can't afford to keep paying his hospital bills.

Highchairs. We all have 'em. But if you're one of nearly half a million parents who bought the Chicco Polly Highchair, you might want to put it away. The popular baby product is part of a massive recall right now because little kids are falling against them and getting hurt. Pegs on the back of the chair have been blamed for 21-some unsturdy tots being injured, including one who scratched the cornea in his eye and several more who required serious medical attention to close up their cuts. So what do you do if you have a Chicco highchair sitting in your house? Here's everything you need to know to keep your child safe:

Think fast: would you give your child an illegal drug? If you said "of course not," hear, hear! But I've got another question for you: would your answer change if an illegal drug was going to help ease your teenager's pain? Sharon Letts has done it. The California mom admitted in a recent piece for Toke of the Town that she let her then 16-year-old daughter smoke pot. Then she brewed her a cannabis tea. And if she had it to do all over again, Letts says she would even make her a salad with marijuana leaves to help with her fibromyalgia pain.

I always thought taking our kids to the dentist was part of our job as parents. It's right up there with getting their vaccinations and making sure they eat a balanced diet. So let's just say the ABC News report that a number of kids have died during regular dental visits scared the ever living crud out of me. These weren't kids whose parents had let their teeth decay so badly they had insidious infections. These weren't kids with bizarre health problems. They were just normal, everyday kids whose caring parents took them in to the dentist for normal check-ups and average cavity fillings. You know ... parents like you and me. Only now those parents are grieving. So why shouldn't you be scared?

The Boy Scouts of America has announced they will continue to discriminate against gay kids and adults alike, just as they have for years. I'll say this for the BSA, they're consistent. They consistently disappoint American parents and bring shame to the thousands upon thousands of boys who came up through their ranks over the years. The organization is considered one of the largest of American youth with 2.7 million members. And yet, the announcement made to the press today shows just how out of touch the gay-hating Boy Scouts are with the kids in America.

There's no excuse for locking your own child in a chicken coop and making her live for days on just bread and water. But neighbors in Butler, Georgia say mom Diana Franklin and husband Samuel Franklin allegedly has one hell of an excuse. Literally. Franklin supposedly said that the Bible made them abuse their adopted daughter. It sounds like it could lead us down into a religious argument. But considering all the good parents I know who happen to be Christian and aren't abusing their kids, I'm going to skip that quagmire and go straight for confusion. Are there really people who think it's OK to live "by the Bible," even when the laws in America say it's wrong? Have they actually read the same book?

Imagine being a kid. One of your parents is the primary caregiver for seven years, and then, all of a sudden, you're split. Your dad moves out of state, and you have to go with him. Heartbroken doesn't begin to describe how you'd feel, right? You might want to carry that feeling to the polls next time you're facing an amendment on same sex marriage. Louisiana dad Dale Liuzza is gaining national attention right now because this is exactly what happened to him. His son, Seth, now lives in Washington State with Dale's ex, Chris, and he gets to see him a maximum of every two months. And Dale can't do a thing about it. There is no "rearranging custody" or "asserting legal parental rights." Really think this is good for the child?

A baby is in a Nevada hospital in serious condition, and police say it's because she ingested heroin. Now both her mom and dad are under arrest, and we're faced with one of those horrifying reminders that "child abuse" doesn't always mean purposely hurting a child. And it doesn't matter if things turn out right in the end. Neither 25-year-old Justin Robinson nor 23-year-old Lorena Vizina seems to have purposely fed their 1-year-old heroin. But they're both facing child abuse charges, and it's not hard to see why.

For years now, giving birth to a big baby has been like a badge of honor. Moms get a pat on the back for all the work of carrying around such a heavy load, and making it through delivery. Plus they're content knowing they won't have to face all those scary "low birth weight" risks. But now scientists are bursting moms' bubbles big time. It's true, bigger babies may not face the same scary health risks of their much smaller nursery mates. But they put their mothers at risk of something much more terrifying than the back pain they suffered from carrying them. Breast cancer. They might as well have just gone ahead and said it: Moms, you are darned if you don't, and you're darned if you do.

Poor Keke Palmer. The teenage actress is starring in Ice Age: Continental Drift, and critics say it flat out sucks. And now she's about to suffer the wrath of the Fifty Shades of Grey fandom. The 18-year-old Palmer responded to criticism that she's reading the so-called mommy porn this week with some harsh words for the old broads reading E.L. James' erotic novels. And this young whippersnapper went straight for the jugular.

Need proof of that old adage "better late than never"? That's the way I'm looking at the arrest this week of accused child molester Jeffrey Reed Parrish. It's been 18 years since police in Santa Barbara, California say he took off as a fugitive from justice. Now he's been shipped from Guatemala to the United States to face a judge. I think that deserves an AMEN! Don't you? This poor girl -- scratch that, the 4-year-old victim is a woman now -- has been waiting long enough for justice.

Rosie Pope comes off as so normal on her Bravo show Pregnant in Heels that I sometimes wonder if we can really call her a "reality star." Isn't that a term we use for televised train wrecks? You know, like some of the girls over on MTV's Teen Mom? But now the word is out that Rosie wouldn't mind showing her face on TV's OTHER popular parenting reality show. Now THAT would get parents' attention, wouldn't it? Some MUCH NEEDED attention? Heads up, moms and dads, you're about to get some learning maternity concierge style.

The mystery of what happened to missing Iowa girls Lyric Cook Morrissey and Elizabeth Collins is growing. And now there's another kink in the search for the cousins who went for a bike ride on a summer day and never came back. The police and the family can't seem to get on the same page. It would be bad enough that Lyric's father Dan Morrissey allegedly stormed out of one of the meetings with cops after being accused of playing a role in their disappearance. But every time the girls' families talk to the media, they have another complaint about how police in Evansdale are handling their case.
